AIL Storm
The AIL Storm ( he, סופה, ''Sufa'') is an Israeli manufactured off-road vehicle and the workhorse of the Israeli Security Forces. The series of Jeep Wrangler based vehicles have been produced by Automotive Industries Ltd. in Upper Nazareth under license from Chrysler since 1990. The vehicles fill a number of military roles, including that of armoured Infantry Mobility Vehicle, and certain models are available for export as well as for the civilian market. Production of an updated four-door second generation model commenced in 2006 despite some mixed messages from the Storm's primary customer, the Israel Defense Forces. Development of a third generation vehicle based on the new Jeep Wrangler JK has been completed and significant production for both Israeli and foreign customers is under way. Automotive Industries, Ltd. ( he, תעשיות רכב נצרת עלית, תע"ר, ''Ta'asiyot Rekhev Natzrat Ilit'', AIL) is an Israeli automaker and major supplier of the Israeli Security Forces. History Located in Nazareth Illit, the company was founded in 1966 by Automotive Equipment Group as a plant for the assembly of cars and trucks. AIL has since increased its role in the vehicle's manufacture, doing much of the work on several early Willys MB-derivatives, and the more recent M462 trucks and AIL Storm (''Sufa'') series of Jeep Wrangler-derivatives, and the AIL Desert Raider. The Jeep CJ models are a series and a range of small, open-bodied off-road vehicles and compact pickup trucks, built and sold by several successive incarnations of the Jeep automobile marque from 1945 to 1986. The 1945 Willys Jeep was the world's first mass-produced civilian four-wheel drive car. In 1944, Willys-Overland, one of the two main manufacturers of the World War II military Jeep, built the first prototypes for a commercial version – the CJ, short for "civilian Jeep". Jeep is an American automobile marque, now owned by multi-national corporation Stellantis. Off-roading is the activity of driving or riding in a vehicle on unpaved surfaces such as sand, gravel, riverbeds, mud, snow, rocks, and other natural terrain. In automotive design, a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, or FF layout, places both the internal combustion engine and driven roadwheels at the front of the vehicle.
