AHRQ
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ; pronounced "ark" by initiates and often "A-H-R-Q" by the public) is one of twelve agencies within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The agency is headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. (with a Rockville mailing address). It was established as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) in 1989 as a constituent unit of the Public Health Service (PHS) to enhance the quality, appropriateness, and effectiveness of health care services and access to care by conducting and supporting research, demonstration projects, and evaluations; developing guidelines; and disseminating information on health care services and delivery systems. As with quality in other fields, it is an assessment of whether something is good enough and whether it is suitable for its purpose. Richard Kronick
Richard Gray Kronick is an American health policy researcher and professor of family and preventive medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where he is also an adjunct professor of political science. Biography Kronick received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester in political science in 1990. He first joined the UCSD faculty in 1991, and worked as a policy advisor to the Clinton administration in the early 1990s. He joined the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 2010 as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. He was the director of the HHS's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality from August 2013 until March 2016, when he stepped down to return to his position at UCSD. Robert Otto Burciaga Valdez is an American academic and public health official who serves as the director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Education Valdez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts in history and biochemistry from Harvard University, followed by a Master's in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan and a PhD in policy analysis from the Frederick S.
