Ice Hockey
Ice hockey (or simply hockey) is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. It belongs to a family of sports called hockey. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use ice hockey sticks to control, advance and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a " puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. The team which scores the most goals is declared the winner. In a formal game, each team has six skaters on the ice at a time, barring any penalties, one of whom is the goaltender. The 2009–10 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season began on October 2, 2009, ending with the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 21, 2010 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. It marked the third time that Minneapolis had hosted the Frozen Four. Maura Crowell
Maura Crowell (born 1980) is an American ice hockey player and coach. She is the head coach for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs women's ice hockey team. Playing career Maura Crowell grew up in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and played ice hockey and field hockey at St. Mark's School in Southborough, Mass. She was captain of the ice hockey team in her junior and senior years, and led the team in points scored twice in her four years. She attended college at Colgate University, where she studied German, and played left wing for the Colgate Raiders women's ice hockey team. During her collegiate career, she helped the Raiders make it to the ECAC Hockey playoffs three times. The Raiders played in the ECAC championship game in 2000, losing to Brown University. Boston College Eagles Women's Ice Hockey
The Boston College Eagles women's ice hockey team represent Boston College in the NCAA and participate in Hockey East. The Eagles are coached by former Olympic gold medallist Katie King-Crowley and play their home games at Conte Forum. They have won the Hockey East championship three times, and made seven trips to the Frozen Four of the NCAA tournament. History The Boston Eagles women's ice hockey program was launched in 1994, under head coach Tom O'Malley, who oversaw the development of the program for five years. In 1999, Tom Babson took the helm and coached for four seasons. In the early years, the team competed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) but struggled to build a competitive program. Katie King-Crowley
Kathryn Karen King (born May 24, 1975) is an American ice hockey player. Raised in Salem, New Hampshire, she won a gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics, silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics. She graduated from Brown University in 1997. While at Brown, she also played softball, and was selected as the Ivy League Softball Player of the Year in 1996. King graduated from Brown University in 1997 with 123 goals and 83 assists in 100 games. King also played for the US National Women's Team. At six World Championships, King registered 36 points in 30 games. At the 2001 tournament, she had a tournament-high seven goals. She also played for the 2005 gold medal winning team. At the end of her Olympic career, she ranked first all time amongst Americans in Olympic scoring with 23 points. Brad Frost
Brad Frost is the current women's ice hockey head coach at the University of Minnesota. Since 2007, he has coached Minnesota to 4 NCAA Championships, 7 Frozen Four appearances, and 4 Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) post-season titles. Early life Frost was raised in Burlington, Ontario. He graduated from Bethel University in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in Physical and Health Education. He played as a forward on the hockey team and served as team captain for two years. After graduation, he was an assistant coach for the Eagan (Minnesota) High School girls' team and then for the Bethel University men's team. In June 2001, Frost joined the coaching staff at the University of Minnesota as an assistant to Laura Halldorson.
