AFF U-23 Youth Championship
The AFF U-23 Championship is an international football competition contested by the national under-23 teams of the member nations of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The inaugural edition was held in 2005. Background In 2005, the first edition was held in Bangkok, Thailand as the AFF U-23 Youth Championship. A second edition of the tournament was set to take place in Palembang, Indonesia between 16 and 26 July 2011 but was cancelled due to the main stadium of Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, which was to be used for the tournament, still being under renovation. In 2019, the tournament was then revived as the AFF U-22 Youth Championship with Phnom Penh, Cambodia as the host where it also served as a preparatory tournament for the Southeast Asian Games and AFC U-23 Asian Cup football tournament. ASEAN Football Federation
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) is an organisation within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and is an international governing body of association football in Southeast Asia. It consists of the federations of Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Despite using "ASEAN" in its name, the AFF is not affiliated with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. 2019 AFF U-22 Youth Championship
The 2019 AFF U-22 Youth Championship or AFF U-22 LG Cup 2019 was the 2nd edition of the AFF U-22 Youth Championship organised by the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). Indonesia won the tournament after defeating Thailand 2–1 in the final. The tournament was held from 17 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This was its first as an under-22 tournament, with the previous edition being an under-23 tournament. 2005 AFF U-23 Youth Championship winners Thailand were the defending champions, as there was no competition from 2006 to 2018 and the 2011 edition was cancelled. Charnwit Polcheewin ( th, ชาญวิทย์ ผลชีวิน) is a Thai football coach. He was the head coach of the Thailand national football team. Managerial career In club level, he brought Thai Farmers Bank to two consecutive AFC Champions League (then Asian Club Championship) titles in 1993–94 and 1994–95. He coached Thailand during their successful campaign in the 2005 SEA Games. He resigned from the post on 20 February 2007 to coach Vietnamese club Đồng Tháp. The 2022 AFF U-23 Championship was the 3rd edition of the AFF U-23 Championship, organised by ASEAN Football Federation (AFF). The tournament was held from 14 to 26 February in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Indonesia were the defending champions, having won the 2019 edition. The tournament was held amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia and Myanmar withdrew from the tournament after several of their players tested positive for COVID-19. Vietnam won the tournament for the first time after beating Thailand 1–0 in the final.
