ACT Veterans Rugby Club
The ACT Vets are a rugby union team based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT), whose players must be 35 years of age or older. Portsea Oval, at the Royal Military College, Duntroon is the club's home ground. The Honorary Patron in Chief of the club is General Peter Cosgrove, Sir Peter Cosgrove, Governor-General of Australia. Other Honorary Patrons are Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, Sir Angus Houston and Vice Admiral Ray Griggs. General David Hurley, Governor of New South Wales, is the club's Supporter. History John Hillier was captain/coach of the Canberra Royals 5th Grade team in 1994 and, at the age of 34, was getting tired of running with much younger players and decided to establish a club for older players who still wanted to play rugby but did not want to be involved in grade competitions. Damian McInally
Damian McInally (born 23 December 1975 in Brisbane, Australia) is a Rugby Union player who has represented Australia in the annual under 21 southern cross championships and Australian Rugby Sevens. A quick and elusive outside back he has played for the Queensland Reds and ACT Brumbies in the Southern Hemisphere Super 12 competition (now Super Rugby). Whilst contracted to the ACT Brumbies, McInally captained the Canberra Vikings team Queensland Premier Rugby championships three consecutive titles, 2001, 2002 and 2003, in the premier Queensland Premier Rugby competition. Andrew Walker (born 22 November 1973) is an indigenous Australian former professional rugby footballer who represented his country in both rugby league and rugby union - a dual code international. William George Stefaniak (born 8 January 1952) is an Australian politician and former Australian Capital Territory Minister. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Australian Capital Territory after succeeding in a leadership challenge against then-leader Brendan Smyth on 16 May 2006. He is a former Major in the Australian Army Reserve and a law graduate of the Australian National University. On 13 December 2007, he was replaced as Liberal Leader by Zed Seselja. Stephen Larkham (born 29 May 1974) is a retired Australian rugby union professional player, currently in the role of head coach for Brumbies. He spent his career with the Brumbies in Super Rugby, for whom he played from the inception of the professional Super 12 in 1996 through 2007. Snowy Hydro SouthCare
Snowy Hydro SouthCare was a rescue and aeromedical helicopter service based in Canberra, Australia from 1998 to 2017. The area served covered the Australian Capital Territory, as well as parts of New South Wales including the South Coast, Southern Tablelands, Central West and Riverina regions as far south as the border with Victoria. SouthCare operated a single Bell 412 (VH-NSC) through CHC Helicopters Australia, with medical crews provided by the Capital Region Retrieval Service, a part of the ACT Government Health Directorate. The service was backed by significant funding from Hydro-electric energy company Snowy Hydro. By the time the service ceased, SouthCare had conducted 6,963 missions. Legacy is an Australian non-profit organisation established in 1923 by ex-servicemen.
