ACE Moharram Bakhoum is a multi-disciplinary engineering and project management consultancy company, based in Egypt. Operations The company operates in 37 countries, working on both private and publicly financed projects. History ACE Moharram Bakhoum was established in 1950 as a private partnership between Ahmed Moharram and Michel Bakhoum. The first projects executed by the partners was a storage area for printing machines constructed in the basement of a building in Cairo, followed by the design of a pharmacological factory. In the 1950s, the partners made their entry into the field of bridge design, for which they later became widely known. By the 1970s, the company witnessed a regional expansion. In 1970, the first phase of the 6th of October Bridge was opened. Ahmed Moharram
Ahmed Moharram, Sr. (December 6, 1913 – March 4, 2017) was Minister of Housing and Public Utilities in Egypt and the co-founder and chairman of ACE Moharram Bakhoum, an international engineering and project management group. Because of his significant contributions to the housing, infrastructure, and civil engineering, Moharram received honorary medals and awards such as the Medal of the Order of the Republic of the 1st Degree (وسام الجمهورية من الدرجة الأولي) in 1964 from the former president Gamal Abdel Nasser, Medal of the Order of Merit of the 1st Degree (وسام الاستحقاق من الدرجة الأولي) in 1985 from the former president Hosni Mubarak, Mubarak's Award (currently named the Nile Award) in 2002, and several other honors in Egypt. Michel Bakhoum
Michel Bakhoum (, , '; 1913–1981) was an Egyptians, Egyptian consulting civil engineer, university professor, and a researcher in concrete structures. Education and early years Michel Bakhoum was born in June 1913 in Cairo. He graduated from the Civil Engineering Department at Cairo University in 1936 (then known as Fouad I University). He completed his M.Sc. in 1942, and his first Ph.D. in 1945. He was the second person in Egypt to receive a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University. In 1945, he traveled to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he received his second Ph.D. He then spent one year at Columbia University in New York City, New York, to strengthen his background in Theoretical Mechanics, Theory of Elasticity and Theory of Plasticity. The 6th October Bridge ( ar, كوبري 6 أكتوبر, ) is an elevated highway in central Cairo, Egypt. The bridge and causeway crosses the Nile twice from the west bank suburbs, east through Gezira Island to Downtown Cairo, and on to connect the city to the Cairo International Airport to the east. Its name commemorates the date of 'The Crossing', which commenced the outbreak day of the Yom Kippur War in 1973. History The bridge and causeway were completed in 1996, with construction taking nearly 30 years. Prestressed Concrete
Prestressed concrete is a form of concrete used in construction. It is substantially "prestressed" ( compressed) during production, in a manner that strengthens it against tensile forces which will exist when in service. Post-tensioned concreted is "structural concrete in which internal stresses have been introduced to reduce potential tensile stresses in the concrete resulting from loads." This compression is produced by the tensioning of high-strength "tendons" located within or adjacent to the concrete and is done to improve the performance of the concrete in service. Rod El Farag
Rod El Farag ( ar, روض الفرج, ; also spelled Road El Farag, Road Elfarag or Road Alfarag) is an administrative region forming about one third of Shobra in Cairo, Egypt. Rod El Farag neighbours the River Nile to the west, Boulaq to the south, Shobra (administrative region) to the east and Elsahel to the north. Cairo Metro
The Cairo Metro ( ar, مترو أنفاق القاهرة, Metro Anfāq al-Qāhirah, lit. "Cairo Tunnel Metro" or ) is the rapid transit system in Greater Cairo, Egypt.
