ABSF African Snooker Championships
The ABSC African Snooker Championship is an annual snooker competition and is the highest ranking and most prestigious amateur event in Africa. The event series is sanctioned by the African Billiards & Snooker Confederation. Having been established back in 1993, the winner of the event often becomes the African nomination for the World Snooker Tour. Throughout the tournament’s early history the championship was dominated by South African people, South African players, however at the turn of the millennium Egyptians, Egyptian players became the dominant force in the championship, winning 11 of 15 championships since the year 2000. The championship is currently held by Mohamed Ibrahim (snooker player), Mohamed Ibrahim who defeated Hesham Shawky 5–4 in the final of the 2022 All-Africa Snooker & 6-Red Championship. Mohamed Ibrahim (snooker Player)
Mohamed Ibrahim ( arz, محمد ابراهيم, born 3 March 1990) is an Egyptian professional snooker player. He returned to the professional tour after a three year absence after he won the 2022 African Snooker Championship. __TOC__ Career As the winner of the 2018 ABSF African Snooker Championships he was awarded a place on the professional snooker tour for the 2018–19 season on a two-year card. In October 2018 Ibrahim withdrew his tour card, having not entered a single match during the season. He previously competed at the highest level at the 2012 Six-red World Championship where he pushed eventual tournament winner Mark Davis to a deciding frame. He won the 2022 African Snooker Championship in Casablanca, Morocco in July 2022. He secured his first win back on tour defeating Julien Leclercq in UK Championship qualifying in November 2022. Hatem Yassen ( ''Ḥātam Yāsīn''; born 21 August 1986) is a former Egyptian professional snooker player. Yassen turned professional in 2015 winning the African Championship. Mohamed Khairy
Mohamed Alaa Khairy (born 26 December 1981) is an Egyptian former professional snooker player. Khairy turned professional in 2012 after having been nominated by the African Billiards and Snooker Federation, but was relegated from the tour after two seasons. Career Debut season Khairy did not play in the first six ranking tournaments and all ten Players Tour Championship events due to visa problems. He lost all of his first four matches as a professional, with Khairy's season ending when he was beaten 3–10 by Tony Drago in the first round of World Championship Qualifying. He finished his first year on tour ranked world number 96. 2013/2014 season Khairy won his first match as a professional in the Shanghai Masters qualifiers where he beat Passakorn Suwannawat 5–4. Peter Francisco (born 14 February 1962 in Cape Town, Western Cape) is a former South African professional snooker player who won the African Snooker Championship 4 times and South African Snooker Championship 8 times and the South African Billiards Championship 13 times as an amateur and professional. Career Francisco turned professional in 1984, and reached the final stages of the World Snooker Championship on five occasions: 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 and 1995.
