A1 Team France is the French team of A1 Grand Prix, an international racing series. The team were the A1 Grand Prix champions for the inaugural season, 2005-06. Management A1 Team France's owner is Jean-Paul Driot. The team was previously managed by Driot's racing team Driot Associates Motor Sport (DAMS) since the series debut, but has switched to Connor Racing for the 2008–09 season. Jean-Paul Driot
Jean-Paul Driot (7 October 1950 – 3 August 2019) was a French motorsport personality, co-founder of the DAMS team with the former driver of Formula One René Arnoux. Career In 1988, Jean-Paul Driot founded with René Arnoux the DAMS team, engaged in the International Formula 3000 championship the following year. In 2005, following the launch of the A1 Grand Prix championship, he acquired the A1 Team France franchise. In 2014, he founded the Renault e.dams team, in partnership with Alain Prost Alain Marie Pascal Prost (; born 24 February 1955) is a French retired racing driver and Formula One team owner. 2005–06 A1 Grand Prix Season
The 2005–06 A1 Grand Prix season was the inaugural season for the A1 Grand Prix series. It began on 25 September 2005, and finished on 2 April 2006 after eleven races. This first season was won by A1 Team France on 12 March 2006. Teams 25 teams, each representing a different country, signed up for the first A1 Grand Prix season. All teams used a control chassis (Lola A1GP), engine (Zytek) and tyre (Cooper Avon). The following teams competed in the 2005–06 championship: * (1) Enrico Toccacelo became the replacement driver for A1 Team Pakistan in Durban after Adam Khan was injured during the practice session. Lola Cars International Ltd. was a British race car engineering company in operation from 1958 to 2012. A1 Grand Prix (A1GP) was a "single-make" open-wheel auto racing series that ran from 2005 until 2009. It was unique in its field in that competitors solely represented their nation as opposed to themselves or a team, the usual format in most formula racing series. As such, it was often promoted as the "World Cup of Motorsport". The series was ratified by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), and races were held in the traditional Formula One off-season, the northern hemisphere winter.
