A1 (band)
A1 (stylised as a1) is a British-Norwegian boy group formed in 1998. The original line-up consisted of Paul Marazzi, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read and Ben Adams. Ingebrigtsen is originally from Oslo, Norway, while the other members originate from London. Their debut single, "Be the First to Believe", entered the UK Singles Chart at number six in mid-1999. They achieved chart success in the UK and other parts of the world in the late 1990s and early 2000s, particularly Southeast Asia. In the UK, they scored two number ones and six other top 10 hits, seven of which were written by the band. Adding to this, they also won a BRIT Award for "British Breakthrough Act" in 2001. They were managed by band manager Tim Byrne, who also formed Steps. Marazzi left the band in 2002, citing personal reasons. Ben Adams
Benjamin “Ben” Edward Stephen Adams (born 22 November 1981) is a British singer and songwriter from Ascot, England, best known as a member of the British-Norwegian boy band A1. Early life Born in Ascot, Adams attended Westminster Under School, where he became head chorister of the school choir. He later attended Bedales School, leaving aged 16, after completing his GCSEs, to join Charterhouse School. Career A1 (1998–2002 and 2009–present) Adams was a member of four-piece boyband a1, who won a BRIT Award in 2001 for Best Newcomer and had two number one singles on the UK Singles Chart, "Take On Me" (the chart-topping song that was originally made famous by and written by the Norwegian band a-ha) and "Same Old Brand New You", before separating in 2002. "Same Old Brand New You" is a song by British-Norwegian boy band A1. It was released on 6 November 2000 as the second single from their second album, '' The A List''. The single was the band's second and final number one single on the UK Singles Chart. Background During 2014's The Big Reunion documentary, band member Ben Adams recalls that the writing of this track was the first start of the split between Paul Marazzi and the rest of band. Adams recalled how he, Read, and Ingebrigtsten travelled to New York to work with Eric Foster White on the song but Marazzi did not want to join them and thus missed out on co-songwriting credit for the track. The following year, however, Marazzi denied in an interview that there was a split during these times and said how he loved the track. Marazzi wrote the B-Side, "Funkin' Up". Mark Daniel Read (born in Worcester Park, London on 7 November 1978) is an English singer/songwriter, best known as member of the boy band A1 from 1998 to 2002, and 2009 to the present. Background Read grew up in a very musical family; his father Keith was in The Wild Angels, a rock 'n' roll band. His mother, Pam, played piano and drums as well as being a singer/songwriter. Read began playing piano at the age of two and eventually joined the family band on keyboards at the age of 11, where he would regularly perform in pubs, clubs and hotels across the country. He attended Auriol Junior School and then went on to Epsom and Ewell High School. Christian Ingebrigtsen
Christian Ingebrigtsen (born 25 January 1977) is a Norwegian singer-songwriter and musician. He is a member of the pop group A1. Biography Ingebrigtsen was born in Oslo, Norway, into a musical family. His father Stein Ingebrigtsen was the biggest selling recording artist in Norway in the 1970s. At the age of three, Christian joined his father on tour. He learned to play the violin at six, and later started playing the piano and guitar. At school he concentrated on music and drama, and eventually played the piano at local events and at church. At 16 he started composing his own songs, and as an exchange student in Kentucky in the U.S. he participated in musicals, talent contests and held his own concerts. In 1995 he was given the state award Kentucky Colonel, something he shares with the likes of Bing Crosby, Colonel Sanders and Winston Churchill. Mike Hedges (born 1953) is a British audio producer/engineer best known for his work with The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Manic Street Preachers. During his career, Hedges has worked with an eclectic roster of artists ranging from rock and pop acts such as U2, Dido, Travis, Texas, The Beautiful South, and Everything but the Girl, to cult-indie band The Cooper Temple Clause and classically oriented projects, The Priests and Sarah Brightman. Paul Marazzi
Paul Thomas Leo Marazzi (born 24 January 1975) is a British musician. He is the oldest member of boy band A1. Marazzi was the first to join A1, a British/Norwegian boy band whose first single, "Be the First to Believe", was released in 1999. Together with Marazzi were Britons Mark Read, Ben Adams and Norwegian Christian Ingebrigtsen. They were formed by band manager Tim Byrne, who also formed Steps, and signed to Columbia Records by A&R manager Fran de Takats. A1 won a BRIT Award for "British Breakthrough Act" in 2001. Their third album, '' Make It Good'', featured a sound closer to traditional rock music, but was to be their last studio project with Marazzi.
