A1206 Road (Great Britain)
The A1206, also known as the Isle of Dogs Distributor Road, is a crescent-shaped ring road around the Isle of Dogs, in the East End of London. It is made up of Westferry Road, Manchester Road and Prestons Road and is the main road through the area, connecting parts of the London Docklands. Route From west to east, the road starts in Limehouse, then changes from Westferry Road to Manchester Road at Island Gardens. At Cubitt Town it crosses the entrance to the West India Docks via the Blue Bridge, a bascule bridge that allows ships to reach the docks. It then becomes Prestons Road, ending in Poplar. Several side roads and buildings along Westferry Road, such as Cuba Street and Spinnaker House, have names related to the historic connection the Isle of Dogs has with the shipping industry. The West India Docks are a series of three docks, quaysides and warehouses built to import goods from and export goods and occasionally passengers to the British West Indies on the Isle of Dogs in London the first of which opened in 1802. Following their commercial closure in 1980, the Canary Wharf development was built around the wet docks by narrowing some of their broadest tracts. Silvertown Tunnel
The Silvertown Tunnel is a road tunnel under construction beneath the River Thames between the Greenwich Peninsula and west Silvertown. It is being promoted by Transport for London and will be delivered through a design, build, finance and maintain contract by the Riverlinx consortium. The tunnel is intended to reduce congestion through the Blackwall Tunnel and both tunnels will be Toll roads in Great Britain, tolled when it opens in 2025. The contract for construction was awarded in November 2019. The tunnel will include dedicated lanes for heavy goods vehicles and buses, but it will not be accessible to walkers or cyclists. All future bus routes that will use the tunnel will be zero emission. Millwall Dock is a dock at Millwall, London, England, located south of Canary Wharf on the Isle of Dogs. Cubitt Town
Cubitt Town is a district on the eastern side of the Isle of Dogs in London, England. This part of the former Metropolitan Borough of Poplar was redeveloped as part of the Port of London in the 1840s and 1850s by William Cubitt, Lord Mayor of London (1860–1862), after whom it is named. Island Gardens
Island Gardens is a public park located at the southern end of the Isle of Dogs in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets on the north bank of the River Thames. The park was formally opened on 3 August 1895 by local politician Will Crooks. The waterside park is notable for its cross-river view of the classical buildings of the former Greenwich Hospital, the ''Cutty Sark'' and the National Maritime Museum, with Greenwich Park forming a backdrop. The northern entrance of the Greenwich foot tunnel is also within the park. It is almost certain that the view from this location is the one that the Canaletto painting "Greenwich Hospital from the North Bank of the Thames" is taken from, though whether Canaletto himself actually visited the site is in doubt. The park also gave its name to Island Gardens DLR station. Limehouse
Limehouse is a district in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London. It is east of Charing Cross, on the northern bank of the River Thames. Its proximity to the river has given it a strong maritime character, which it retains through its riverside public houses and steps, such as The Grapes and Limehouse Stairs.
