Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan (, ; az, Azərbaycan ), officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, , also sometimes officially called the Azerbaijan Republic is a transcontinental country located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is a part of the South Caucasus region and is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia (Republic of Dagestan) to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. Baku is the capital and largest city. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence from the Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic in 1918 and became the first secular democratic Muslim-majority state. In 1920, the country was incorporated into the Soviet Union as the Azerbaijan SSR. The modern Republic of Azerbaijan proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991, shortly before the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the same year. Heyran Khanim
Heyran Khanim was an Azerbaijani poet who lived in the first half of the 19th century. Biography Khanim was born in Nakhchivan into an aristocratic family. Her birth and death dates are unknown. Heyran Khanim moved to Iran in the beginning of the 19th century and lived in Tabriz until the end of her life. She knew Persian and Arabic Arabic (, ' ; , ' or ) is a Semitic language spoken primarily across the Arab world.Semitic languages: an international handbook / edited by Stefan Weninger; in collaboration with Geoffrey Khan, Michael P. Gullu Yologlu
Gullu Yologlu is an Azerbaijani academic and the chairperson of the World Turkology Center. They have contributed ethnology, folklore studies, literature, history, religious studies and other scientific fields in Azerbaijan by providing information, analysis and outcomes with her scholarly and scholarly-publicistic articles and books, and her scientific and artistic radio and television programs since the 1990s. Her main research areas are faiths, traditions, ethnic identities, shamanist past, material and non-material culture of small-numbered Turkic peoples living in countries from the Siberia to the Balkans. Nigar Rafibeyli
Nigar Khudadat qizi Rafibeyli ( az, Nigar Xudadat qızı Rəfibəyli) (1913–1981, Baku) was an Azerbaijani writer and the Chairman of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan. She was the mother of Anar Rzayev, novel and short-story writer, and wife of famous writer and poet Rasul Rza. Early life Nigar Rafibeyli was born on 23 June 1913 in the town of Ganja. Her parents were medical surgeons. Her father, Khudadat Rafibeyli was the first Azeri surgeon who had studied in Europe. In 1919, he was invited to head the Ganja government by the republican government of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, but he was soon arrested at instigation by Armenian bolsheviks and sent to Nargin island, where he was executed by bolshevik soldiers. Nigar Rafibeyli finished her school in Ganja and moved to Baku for her higher education. She studied at Pedagogical Technical School. She taught at school but always wrote novels. Ganira Pashayeva
Ganira Alasgar gizi Pashayeva ( az, Qənirə Әləsgər qızı Paşayeva, born 24 March 1975, Düz Qırıqlı, Tovuz Rayon, Azerbaijan) is a Member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. Early life and education Pashayeva was born in the village of Düz Qırıqlı of Tovuz Rayon on 24 March 1975. She graduated from the Pediatrics Department at Azerbaijan State Medical University, and the Department of International Law at the Baku State University in Baku. She speaks Turkish, English and Russian. Career Since 1998, she worked as a reporter, correspondent, editor, leading editor, senior leading editor, Deputy editor-in-chief, and Deputy editor-in-chief of the news service and Deputy editor-in-chief of the news section at the ANS Group of Companies Television Company. Sevinj Nurugizi ( az, Sevinc Nuruqızı; August 22, 1964) is a children's writer, a member of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union since 2001 and a member of the Azerbaijan Journalists’ Union since 1999. Biography Sevinj Nurugizi Imanova was born on August 22, 1964, in Baku. She left the secondary school in Agdam District. In 1981, she entered the M.F.Akhundov Institute of Russian Language and Literature. In 1986, she graduated from the university with distinction and started to work as a teacher of the Russian language and literature at a secondary school of Şelli-Garadaghly village of Aghdam District. Khurshidbanu Natavan
Khurshidbanu Natavan ( az, خورشیدبانو ناتوان / Xurşidbanu Natəvan; 6 August 1832 – 2 October 1897) was an Azerbaijani poet and philanthropist. She is considered one of the best lyrical poets of Azerbaijan. Her poems are in either Azerbaijani or Persian and she was most notable for her lyrical ghazals. Natavan was the daughter of Mehdigulu Khan, the last ruler of the Karabakh Khanate (1748–1822). Life Natavan was born on August 5, 1832 in Shusha, a town in present-day Azerbaijan, in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, to Mehdigulu Khan (1763-1845) and Badir Jahan Begüm (1802-1861). Being the only child in the family and descending from Panah Ali Khan, she was the only heir of the Karabakh khan, known to general public as the "daughter of the khan" ( az, Xan qızı).
