Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan (, ; az, Azərbaycan ), officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, , also sometimes officially called the Azerbaijan Republic is a transcontinental country located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. It is a part of the South Caucasus region and is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia (Republic of Dagestan) to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia and Turkey to the west, and Iran to the south. Baku is the capital and largest city. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence from the Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic in 1918 and became the first secular democratic Muslim-majority state. In 1920, the country was incorporated into the Soviet Union as the Azerbaijan SSR. The modern Republic of Azerbaijan proclaimed its independence on 30 August 1991, shortly before the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the same year. The ''Azerbaijan'' ( az, Azərbaycan) is a state-owned newspaper and public journal published by the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. History The official newspaper of the ADR government "Azerbaijan" was established in 1918. The government by its order of 3 July 1918, decided on the launch of the publication "the News of Azerbaijani Republic" under its official authority. Thus, the first issue of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper was published as the parliamentary paper on 15 September 1918, on the same day, when the Caucasus Islamic Army freed Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik invasion. One of the editors of the official government newspaper the Azerbaijan was Jeyhun Hajibeyli. The newspaper was published till 28 December 1919 with the signature of Uzeyir Hajibeyli's brother Jeyhun. Azerbaijan or Azarbaijan ( fa, آذربایجان, ''Āzarbāijān'' ; az-Arab, آذربایجان, ''Āzerbāyjān'' ), also known as Iranian Azerbaijan, is a historical region in northwestern Iran that borders Iraq, Turkey, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Armenia, and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Iranian Azerbaijan includes three northwestern Iranian provinces: West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan and Ardabil. Some authors also include Zanjan in this list, some in a geographical sense, others only culturally (due to the predominance of the Azeri Turkic population there). Azerbaijan People's Government
The Azerbaijan People's Government ( az, آذربایجان میللی حکومتی - Azərbaycan Milli Hökuməti; fa, حکومت خودمختار آذربایجان) was a short-lived unrecognized secessionist state in northern Iran from November 1945 to December 1946. Like the unrecognized Republic of Mahabad, it was a puppet state of the Soviet Union. Established in Iranian Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan People's Government capital was the city of Tabriz. Its establishment and demise were a part of the Iran crisis, which was a precursor to the Cold War. Günəşli ( tly, Ozobijon), (until 2008, Azərbaycan, Azerbagdzhan, and Azerbaydzhan) is a village and municipality in the Lerik Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 1,022.
