Axel Schmidt (oboist)
Axel Schmidt (born 19 August 1940) is a German cor anglais player and oboist. Life Born in Zwickau, Schmidt learned to play the oboe from Alfred Gleißberg, the solo oboist of the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Peter Fischer at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. From 1962 to 1964, Schmidt worked with the . In 1964, he became solo English horn player with the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under the conduct of Herbert Kegel. He was interpreter of early music in the ''Pro Arte Antiqua Lipsienis'', the ''Telemann-Ensemble'' and the ''Capella Fidicinia'' under the direction of the musicologist Hans Grüß. In 1970, he became a member of the Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler and the Leipziger Consort, who devoted themselves to Neue Musik. In 1992, he founded the ''Trio PianOvo''. Cor Anglais
The cor anglais (, or original ; plural: ''cors anglais''), or English horn in North America, is a double-reed woodwind instrument in the oboe family. It is approximately one and a half times the length of an oboe, making it essentially an alto oboe in F. The cor anglais is a transposing instrument pitched in F, a perfect fifth lower than the oboe (a C instrument). This means that music for the cor anglais is written a perfect fifth higher than the instrument sounds. The fingering and playing technique used for the cor anglais are essentially the same as those of the oboe, and oboists typically double on the cor anglais when required. The cor anglais normally lacks the lowest B key found on most oboes, and so its sounding range stretches from E3 (written B) below middle C to C6 two octaves above middle C. Burkhard Glaetzner (born 29 May 1943) is a German oboe virtuoso und conductor. He is one of the leading oboe players in Germany. Life Glaetzner was born in Poznań. His grandfather was the Goethe researcher , who last taught in Leipzig. In 1944 the family moved to Falkenhain/Saxony and in 1950 to Leipzig. In 1953 he received his first recorder lessons; two years later followed his first public appearance. The VEB Deutsche Schallplatten was the monopolistic music publisher in the German Democratic Republic from the 1950s until the 1980s. On August 12, 1946, the German singer and actor Ernst Busch got permission by Soviet military administration to institute a publishing house for music. Luca Lombardi (born 24 December 1945) is an Italian composer. Biography Lombardi was born in Rome. He studied composition initially with Armando Renzi and Roberto Lupi, later enrolling at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica "Gioachino Rossini", Pesaro Conservatory where he studied with Boris Porena, receiving his diploma in 1970. He then studied musicology at the Sapienza University of Rome, University of Rome, graduating with a thesis on Hanns Eisler. From 1968 to 1972 he lived in Cologne where he studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen, Henri Pousseur, Mauricio Kagel, Dieter Schnebel, and Frederic Rzewski at the Cologne Courses for New Music, and with Bernd Alois Zimmermann at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, Hochschule für Musik. Gunter Sieberth (born in 1965) is a German oboist. Life Sieberth comes from Meiningen in Thuringia. From 1978 to 1983 he attended the in Weimar. Afterwards he studied at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Weimar with Axel Schmidt, solo English horn player in the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.
