''Awesome; I Fuckin' Shot That!'' (alternate title: ''Awesome; I... Shot That!'') is a 2006 concert film by American hip-hop group Beastie Boys, directed by Adam Yauch under the name Nathaniel Hörnblowér. It was created by giving camcorders to 50 audience members of a sold out concert at Madison Square Garden on October 9, 2004. The audience members were instructed to keep the cameras rolling at all times. For a low budget operation, all cameras were returned to the place of purchase for a refund. The film first screened on January 6, 2006 to the fans that shot the footage. Also that same month it was shown at the Sundance Film Festival. There was a one-night screening across the country on March 23, and the film was then given a general release on March 31, 2006. The DVD of the concert film was released on July 24, 2006 in the UK and July 25, 2006 in the US. Adam Yauch
Adam Nathaniel Yauch ( ; August 5, 1964 – May 4, 2012), better known under the stage name MCA, was an American rapper, bass player, filmmaker and a founding member of the hip hop group Beastie Boys. Besides his musical work, he also directed many of the band's music videos and did much of their promotional photography, often using the pseudonym Nathaniel Hörnblowér for such work. Yauch founded Oscilloscope Laboratories, an independent film production and distribution company based in New York City. As a Buddhist, he was involved in the Tibetan independence movement and organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert. He died in 2012 from parotid cancer, after which Beastie Boys ceased making music. Darryl Matthews McDaniels (born May 31, 1964), better known by his stage name DMC, is an American rapper. He is a founding member of the hip hop group Run-DMC, and is considered one of the pioneers of hip hop culture. Early life McDaniels grew up in Hollis, Queens. He was born to an unwed mother who surrendered him to the New York Foundling home. He was a ward of the Foundling, in foster care, until placed with the McDaniels and eventually adopted by them. "Pass the Mic" is the first single from the third studio album ''Check Your Head'' by American rap group the Beastie Boys, released on April 7, 1992. Sampling lawsuit In 2003, Beastie Boys were involved in the landmark sampling (music), sampling decision, ''Newton v. Diamond''. In that case, a federal judge ruled that the band was not liable for sampling James Newton's "Choir" in their track, "Pass the Mic". The sample used is the six-second flute stab. In short, Beastie Boys cleared the sample but obtained only the rights to use the sound recording and not the composition rights to the song "Choir". The first three tracks are variations of the track "Root Down", from the Beastie Boys' 1994 album ''Ill Communication''. The remaining seven tracks were recorded "live in Europe, winter 1995". The hidden track heard in the end is a radio jingle in Hebrew made in Israel's military radio station Galey Tzahal.
