The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' in 2005, by order of first appearance. All characters were introduced by the soap's executive producer, Keith Richardson. Max King Max King, portrayed by Charlie Kemp, arrives in the village after backpacking with his girlfriend to attend his father's wedding to Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). He then gets a job at Paddy Kirk's (Dominic Brunt) vet practice to support more travelling ventures. However, he is conned by his father in order to get land. Tom uses Max's position as a vet to poison the animals kept by the owners who refused to sell the land. After having been bullied into poisoning the Briggs family's calves by Tom, a guilty Max decides to leave the village, sick and tired of his father's chicanery. ''Emmerdale'' (known as ''Emmerdale Farm'' until 1989) is a British soap opera that is broadcast on ITV1. The show is set in Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994), a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, ''Emmerdale Farm'' was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Exterior scenes were first filmed in Arncliffe in Littondale, and the series may have taken its name from Amerdale, an ancient name of Littondale. Exterior scenes were later shot at Esholt, but are now shot at a purpose-built set on the Harewood estate. The programme is broadcast in every ITV region. The series originally aired during the afternoon and was intended to be a three-month television series. Robert Sugden
Robert Sugden (also Sugden-Dingle) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. The character originally appeared on the show regularly between 22 April 1986 and 3 October 2005. During that time he was first played as a baby by Richard Smith between 1986 and 1989 before the role was taken over by Christopher Smith from 1989 until 2001. In 2001, Karl Davies took over the role in order for the character to become involved in more adult storylines, as he grew older. Davies briefly reprised his role as Robert for one episode, airing on 10 February 2009, when he returned for the funeral of his father and ''Emmerdale''s longest running character, Jack Sugden (Clive Hornby). The character returned on 23 October 2014, with actor Ryan Hawley taking over the role. Nick Miles
Nick Miles is an English actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Jimmy King in the ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale''. Prior to appearing on ''Emmerdale'', he made appearances in various television series such as ''Casualty'' and ''The Bill''. Early life Miles was born and raised in Moseley, Birmingham, and he attended the Bromsgrove School. His father, John Bradney, was an actor and director of the a local theatre company. Career Miles appeared in the music video of the music video of " Come Back to What You Know", recorded by Embrace, playing the role of a policeman. In a similar role in television, he portrayed the role of Chief Supt Guy Mannion in ''The Bill'', starring in 13 episodes between 1999 and 2001.
