Automatische TreinBeïnvloeding or ATB (English: Automatic Train Control) is a Dutch train protection system first developed in the 1950s. Its installation was spurred by the Harmelen train disaster of 1962. ATB operates by the train collecting electrical signals from line-side apparatus and will override the driver's controls in the following situations: * a) failure to reduce speed at a caution signal (ATB will slow the train sufficiently to stop at the next signal). * b) failure to observe speed limit (ATB makes an immediate emergency brake application) ATB-EG ATB-EG ''(''ATB Eerste Generatie ''English: ATB First Generation'') is based on the American Pulse Code Cab Signaling system. Zwolle–Almelo Railway
The Zwolle–Almelo railway is a regional railway line, that connects Zwolle with Almelo, Netherlands. History The railway was part of the third national construction period of railways in the Netherlands. This last phase of railway construction saw mostly the appearance of local and regional railways. With the Zwolle–Almelo railway, Zwolle and the northernmost provinces were offered a direct link to the Almelo-Salzbergen railway. Route The railway leaves Zwolle in southeastern direction and continues in a straight line to the town of Raalte. In engineering, a fail-safe is a design feature or practice that in the event of a specific type of failure, inherently responds in a way that will cause minimal or no harm to other equipment, to the environment or to people. Hoofddorp Railway Station
Hoofddorp is a railway station in Hoofddorp, Netherlands located on the Weesp–Leiden railway. History From 1912 to 1935 the town had a station also called Hoofddorp nearer to the town centre at the ceased Hoofddorp–Leiden railway (''Haarlemmermeerspoorlijn'' from Aalsmeer to Haarlem, via Hoofddorp and Leiden). The former station building is in use as a residence. The current station opened on 31 May 1981. The station was rebuilt in 1998 to its current look. Vossloh G2000 BB
The G 2000 BB is a four axle heavy shunting and mainline locomotive, designed by German company Vossloh and built at the former MaK plant in Kiel. At the time of its introduction in 2000 it was the most powerful hydraulic transmission locomotive in Vossloh's range. History and design The locomotive was unveiled at Innotrans in 2000. The initial model had an asymmetric cab (see image) with a walkway; the asymmetric cab design allows the walkway to extend all the way to each end of the locomotive; coupled with remote control operation this means that shunting can be done from an external viewpoint whilst still riding on the locomotive.
