Cinema Of Austria
Cinema of Austria refers to the film industry based in Austria. Austria has had an active film, cinema industry since the early 20th century when it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and that has continued to the present day. Producer Sascha Kolowrat-Krakowsky, producer-director-writer Luise Kolm and the Austro-Hungarian directors Michael Curtiz and Alexander Korda were among the pioneers of early Austrian cinema. Several Austrian directors pursued careers in Weimar Germany and later in the United States, among them Fritz Lang, G. W. Pabst, Josef von Sternberg, Billy Wilder, Fred Zinnemann, and Otto Preminger. Between the two World Wars, directors like E. W. Emo and Henry Koster - the latter of whom had emigrated from Austria, provided examples of Austrian film comedies. At the same time, Willi Forst and Walter Reisch founded the ''Wiener Film'' genre. The film takes its title from the waltz "Küssen ist keine Sünd" in Edmund Eysler's 1903 operetta '' Bruder Straubinger'' and features the song in its soundtrack.Höfig, Willi (1973). Oskar Werner
Oskar Werner (; born Oskar Josef Bschließmayer; 13 November 1922 23 October 1984) was an Austrian stage and cinema actor whose prominent roles include two 1965 films, '' The Spy Who Came in from the Cold'' and ''Ship of Fools''. Other notable films include ''Decision Before Dawn'' (1951), ''Jules and Jim'' (1962), ''Fahrenheit 451'' (1966), ''The Shoes of the Fisherman'' (1968) and ''Voyage of the Damned'' (1976). Werner accepted both stage and film roles throughout his career. He won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, and had been nominated several times for the Golden Globe, the Academy Award as well as the BAFTA Award. Call Over the Air (German: ''Ruf aus dem Äther'') is a 1951 Austrian drama film directed by Georg C. Klaren and Georg Wilhelm Pabst and starring Oskar Werner, Lucia Scharf and Fritz Imhoff. It was made at the Sievering Studios in Vienna with location shooting at the Dachstein in the Alps.Rentschler p.284 The film's sets were designed by the art director Fritz Jüptner-Jonstorff. Although filming took place in 1948, it wasn't released for a further three years in either Austria or West Germany. Siegfried Breuer
Siegfried Breuer (24 June 1906 – 1 February 1954) was an Austrian stage and film actor and occasional film director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Vienna, Siegried was the son of Hans Breuer (1868 or 1870–1929), who was an opera singer and actor from Cologne. Performing was in the blood and he studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, some time in the early 1920s and made his stage debut at the Volkstheater, Vienna in 1924. After some 15 years of stage acting he made his screen debut in a film called ''Eins zu Eins'' in 1939 where he went on to star in over 50 films between 1939 and 1954. In 1950 he directed, wrote and starred in the film ''Der Schuß durchs Fenster'' in which he worked with Curd Jürgens. His son Siegfried Breuer Jr. and grandchildren Jacques Breuer and Pascal Breuer are also in the entertainment industry. Franz Antel
Franz Antel (28 June 1913 – 11 August 2007) was a veteran Austrian filmmaker. Born in Vienna, Antel worked mainly as a film producer in the interwar years. After World War II, he began writing and directing films on a large scale. In the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s these were mainly comedies ( romantic, slapstick, and/or musical) and K.u.k. films' all of which, for Austrian and German TV stations alike, have been a staple of weekend afternoon programming ever since. In between there is quite a sober film about the Oberst (Colonel) Redl affair that shook the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy on the eve of World War I.
