The Austria men's national basketball team () represents Austria in international basketball competition. The team is controlled and organised by Basketball Austria. Austria has competed at the EuroBasket six times throughout their history. Their best performance overall came at the EuroBasket 1951, 1951 tournament. However, the team is still seeking qualification to their first appearance on to the global stage at the FIBA World Cup. History EuroBasket 1947 Austria first competed in the European Basketball Championship at EuroBasket 1947, placing 12th of 14 teams. Basketball Austria () is the governing body of basketball in Austria. It joined FIBA in 1934, and is headquartered in Vienna. The Austrian Basketball Federation operates the Austria national basketball team, Austria men's national team and Austria women's national basketball team, Austria women's national team. They organise national competitions in Austria, for both the men's and women's senior teams and also the youth national basketball teams. West Germany National Basketball Team
The Germany men's national basketball team ( or ''Die Mannschaft'') represents Germany in international basketball competition. The team is directed by the German Basketball Federation (''Deutscher Basketball Bund''), the governing body for basketball in Germany. Currently, Germany is ranked third in the FIBA World Ranking. Between 1949 and 1990, separate German national teams were recognised by FIBA due to Allied occupation. The DBB were representing the Federal Republic of Germany (named West Germany from 1949 to 1990), while the East Germany team represented the German Democratic Republic (1952–1990). The two would later merge, after reunification in 1990. Germany's greatest achievements to date have been competing in 25 appearances at the EuroBasket, winning gold in 1993, silver in 2005, and bronze in 2022. 1959 FIBA World Championship
The 1959 FIBA World Championship was the 3rd FIBA World Championship—the international basketball world championship for men's national teams. It was hosted by Chile from 16 to 31 January 1959. Amaury Antônio Pasos was named the MVP. The hosting cities for the competition were Antofagasta, Concepción, Temuco, Valparaíso, with the final stages held at the capital of Santiago. The final games were supposed to be conducted at the newly constructed Metropolitan Indoor Stadium, but because the venue was not finished in time, competition was postponed by a year from the original date. The 1954 FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA World Championship (also called the 2nd World Basketball Championship – 1954) was the international basketball world championship for men's national teams. The 1950 FIBA World Championship, also called the 1st World Basketball Championship – 1950, was the inaugural edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, World Cup basketball tournament for men's national teams. It was held by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), from 22 October to 3 November 1950. FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualification
The FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification is the process that a national basketball team goes through to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA Basketball World Cup finals. Qualifiers are held within four FIBA continental zones FIBA Africa, Africa, FIBA Americas, Americas, FIBA Europe, Europe, and FIBA Asia, Asia-FIBA Oceania, Oceania play in a combined Asia-Pacific region to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup, which are organized by their respective confederations. One extra berth is allocated for the specific continental zone that hosts the event, in addition to the set berths allotted for the region. The hosts of the World Cup receive an automatic berth.
