Australian Triple Crown Of Thoroughbred Racing
The Australian Triple Crown is a three-race competition for thoroughbred racehorses. The Australian Triple Crown consists of the Randwick Guineas (1600 metres) (previously the Canterbury Guineas), the Rosehill Guineas (2000m), and the Australian Derby (2400m). The first leg of the Australian Triple Crown is the Randwick Guineas. It is run at the Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. The race replaced the former Canterbury Guineas (1900 metres), which was discontinued after the 2005 racing season. That race, which originated in 1935, was run at the Canterbury Park Racecourse, also at Sydney, New South Wales. The second leg of the Australian Triple Crown is the Rosehill Guineas. Thoroughbred
The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Thoroughbreds are considered " hot-blooded" horses that are known for their agility, speed, and spirit. The Thoroughbred, as it is known today, was developed in 17th- and 18th-century England, when native mares were crossbred with imported Oriental stallions of Arabian, Barb, and Turkoman breeding. All modern Thoroughbreds can trace their pedigrees to three stallions originally imported into England in the 17th and 18th centuries, and to a larger number of foundation mares of mostly English breeding. Gingernuts (horse)
Gingernuts (foaled 2 October 2013) is a retired New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse. As a three-year-old, he won the 142nd running of the New Zealand Derby, followed up by a win in the Rosehill Guineas in Australia. At age four, he won the Windsor Park Plate and was second in the Livamol Classic, but then was injured while warming up for the Emirates Stakes. The injury required surgery that eventually prompted his retirement. Background Gingernuts is a chestnut gelding who was bred by Goodwood Stud in Palmerston North. He was produced by Double Elle, a five-time winning daughter of Generous who descends on the female side from New Zealand Oaks winner Devante. The Autumn Sun (foaled 2 September 2015) was a Thoroughbred racehorse trained and bred in Australia. He won five Group One races and over three million dollars. Career The Autumn Sun was purchased for $650,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Olly Koolman of Hermitage said, "We went with the plan to buy a Derby winner. Guy Mulcaster identified him and had him on a shortlist. He was one of the first through the ring on that list and we bought confidently with him." From December 2017, The Autumn Sun had 4 trials before he made his debut at Royal Randwick on 25 April 2018. Trapped 3 wide, he took the lead with 100 metres left in an "eye-catching debut". Background Quick Thinker was a A$100,000 Inglis Easter purchase and was bred by Bowcock Bloodstock. A shadow is a dark area where light from a light source is blocked by an opaque object. It occupies all of the three-dimensional volume behind an object with light in front of it. The cross section of a shadow is a two-dimensional silhouette, or a reverse projection of the object blocking the light.
