Australian Institute Of International Affairs
The Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) is an Australian research institute and think tank which focuses on International relations. It publishes the ''Australian Journal of International Affairs''. It is one of the oldest active private research institutes in Australia. The current National President of the AIIA is Allan Gyngell AO, the former executive director of the Australian Office of National Assessments. The current National Executive Director is Dr Bryce Wakefield. Overview The institute's current mission statement is that it wants Australians to "know more, understand more, and engage more in international affairs." Think Tank
A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Most think tanks are non-governmental organizations, but some are semi-autonomous agencies within government or are associated with particular political parties, businesses or the military. Think-tank funding often includes a combination of donations from very wealthy people and those not so wealthy, with many also accepting government grants. Think tanks publish articles and studies, and even draft legislation on particular matters of policy or society. This information is then used by governments, businesses, media organizations, social movements or other interest groups. Diane L. Stone (born April 1964) is an Australian-British academic. Career Diane Stone has been a founding vice president of the International Public Policy Association for 8 years until June 2022. She is Professor of Global Policy at the European University Institute in thSchool of Transnational Governance Until 2019, she worked at the University of Warwick for 23 years. The Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) is a Singaporean research institute and think tank which focuses on international relations, especially in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific (APAC). Kim Beazley
Kim Christian Beazley (born 14 December 1948) is an Australian former politician and diplomat. He was leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and leader of the opposition from 1996 to 2001 and 2005 to 2006, having previously been a cabinet minister in the Hawke and Keating governments. After leaving parliament he served as ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2016 and governor of Western Australia from 2018 to 2022. Beazley was born in Perth, the son of politician Kim Beazley. He studied at the University of Western Australia and Balliol College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. John McCarthy (Australian Diplomat)
John Philip McCarthy (born 29 November 1942) is a former Australian diplomat. Biography Born in Washington, D.C., McCarthy was educated at Downside School, Somerset, in England and studied at Jesus College, Cambridge. He received a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Cambridge University. He was a barrister-at-law and practised in London from 1965 to 1967. He worked with the New York City Law Firm of Shearman & Sterling from 1966 to 1967 and joined the Department of External Affairs in Canberra in 1968. McCarthy was senior private secretary to the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Andrew Peacock, between December 1978 and November 1980. Neal Blewett
Neal Blewett, AC (born 24 October 1933) is an Australian Labor Party politician and diplomat. He was the Member of the House of Representatives for Bonython from 1977 to 1994. He served in both the Hawke and Keating Governments, notably in the former as Minister for Health from 1983 to 1991, during which time he oversaw the Government's reaction to HIV/AIDS. After retiring from Parliament in 1994, he was appointed High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a role he held until 1998. Richard Henry Searby (23 July 1931 – 8 August 2018) was an Australian lawyer, company director and academic. His father was Dr. Henry Searby, a founding member of the Royal Melbourne Hospital at Parkville and his mother, Mary Searby, was a philanthropist involved in community programs for the benefit of underprivileged people. He was born on 23 July 1931. His brother, Michael, held a doctorate in philosophy from Cambridge University and had a career as a director of companies. Garfield Barwick
Sir Garfield Edward John Barwick, (22 June 190313 July 1997) was an Australian judge who was the seventh and longest serving Chief Justice of Australia, in office from 1964 to 1981. He had earlier been a Liberal Party politician, serving as a minister in the Menzies government from 1958 to 1964. Barwick was born in Sydney, and attended Fort Street High School before going on to study law at the University of Sydney. He was called to the bar in 1927 and became one of Australia's most prominent barristers, appearing in many high-profile cases and frequently before the High Court.
