The Australia women's national beach handball team, also known as the Aussie Beach Gliders is the national team of Australia. It is governed by the Australian Handball Federation and takes part in international beach handball competitions. The Australian Handball Federation (AHF) is the Sport governing body, governing body for the Olympic sport of Team handball, handball (also known as European Handball or Olympic Handball) in Australia. 2014 Beach Handball World Championships
The 2014 Beach Handball World Championships were a twelve-team tournament in both men's and women's beach handball, held at Recife, Brazil from 22–27 July, 2014. It was the sixth edition of the event. Just like two years prior, Brazil again won the gold medal in both, the men's and women's competition. Format The twelve teams were split into two groups of six teams. After playing a round-robin, the three top ranked team advanced to the Main Round. Every team kept the points from preliminary round matches against teams who also advanced. In the main round every team had 3 games against the opponents they did not face in the preliminary round. The top four teams advanced to the Semifinals. The three bottom ranked team from each preliminary round group were packed into one group. The 2016 Oceania Beach Handball Championship was held at Coolangatta Beach, Queensland, Australia between February 24 and 28, 2016. There were two divisions, men's and women's with only Australia and New Zealand entering. In the men's draw, defending champions Australia were pushed all the way by New Zealand winning in the end two sets to one. In the women's draw, Australia were also the defending champions and won two sets to nill. A beach is a landform alongside a body of water which consists of loose particles. The particles composing a beach are typically made from rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, etc., or biological sources, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae. Sediments settle in different densities and structures, depending on the local wave action and weather, creating different textures, colors and gradients or layers of material. Though some beaches form on inland freshwater locations such as lakes and rivers, most beaches are in coastal areas where wave or current action deposits and reworks sediments. Erosion and changing of beach geologies happens through natural processes, like wave action and extreme weather events. Where wind conditions are correct, beaches can be backed by coastal dunes which offer protection and regeneration for the beach.
