The Wizards of AUS represent Australia in men's international roller derby. First formed in August 2013, the team was originally intended as a warm-up for the Men's Roller Derby World Cup (Birmingham, England 4 to 6 March 2014), in which they competed against the New Zealand Black Skates. World Cup 2016 On 18 March 2016 the Wizards of AUS named their seventeen-man squad that would be travelling to Calgary in July 2016 to compete in the Men's Roller Derby World Cup. Tui Lyon
Tui Lyon is an Australian roller derby player. Born in Tallangatta in Victoria, Australia, Lyon began skating with the Victorian Roller Derby League in Melbourne in 2008. In 2010, she moved to Cardiff in Wales, where she played for the Tiger Bay Brawlers, then she returned to Victoria in 2012. At the 2014 Roller Derby World Cup, Lyon played for Team Australia. She also became a coach of the Australian men's roller derby team, the Wizards of Aus, and was their bench coach at the 2016 Men's Roller Derby World Cup. While Victoria played roller derby at the highest level, Lyon found the expense of regularly travelling to the United States to compete to be too high. Geelong Roller Derby (GRD) is a roller derby league based in the Victorian city of Geelong. Founded in 2008, the GRD has one team that competes and in interleague bouts. They support both men and women in the league, but their current competitive teams are women only. History The Geelong Roller Derby League was founded in March 2008, and by 31 October of that year they were able to present their first bout. This first event was for family and friends only, and featured the Frankenskaters and the Bloody Marys – the latter of which was the origin of the name of their current interleague team. Convict City Roller Derby League (CCR) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was Tasmania's second league at its formation in 2009. Convict City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Convict City's first public bout, "Inaugural Brawl", came courtesy of Van Diemen Rollers in late 2010, where they were soundly defeated by the Diemens. Convict City had their first interstate interleague bout in November, 2010, when Ballarat Roller Derby League ("The Rat Pack") travelled to Tasmania to take them on. Ballarat won by a convincing 213 points to 56. The 'Victorian Roller Derby League'' (VRDL or Victoria) is a flat track roller derby league based in Melbourne, Victoria. Founded in 2007, VRDL provides opportunities for all ages and at all levels to participate and compete in Roller Derby. VRDL is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), having gained membership in December 2011. In November 2017, VRDL became the first non-American team to win the WFTDA Championships. Since 2019, VRDL is the 2nd-ranked team in the WFTDA. The Men's Roller Derby World Cup is an international tournament in the sport of men's roller derby. The first World Cup was held between 14–16 March 2014 in Birmingham, England. The event has since been held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in July 2016, and Barcelona, Spain on April 5–8, 2018 The next tournament is to be hosted in St. Louis, Missouri, USA on 9–12 July 2020.
