Australia was represented at the 2002 Commonwealth Games by a team selected by the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and abbreviated AUS. Australia officially became a member of the Commonwealth of Nations in 1931 under the Statute of Westminster having become independent of the UK in 1901. Australia is one of only six countries to have competed in all of the Commonwealth Games held since 1930, although they did attend the 1911 Inter-Empire Championships as part of an Australasian team. This impressive international record extends to its participation in every Olympic Games in the modern era. At the first Games in 1930 Australia won only 8 medals against England's 61. Australian Commonwealth Games Association
Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) is the Commonwealth Games Association for Australia, and is responsible for representing and promoting the Commonwealth Sport movement in the country, and organises the participation of athletes at the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games. It changed it name from the Australian Commonwealth Games Association to Commonwealth Games Australia in 2015. The Commonwealth Games have been held in Australia five times, most recently the 2018 Commonwealth Games were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Role The CGA is one of 72 Commonwealth Games Associations currently recognised by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). Jana Pittman
Jana Pittman (born 9 November 1982) is an Australian former athlete. During her athletic career Pittman specialised in the 400 metres run and 400-metre hurdles events. She is a two-time world champion in the 400 m hurdles, from 2003 and 2007. She also won the gold medal in this event at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games and was part of Australia's winning 4 × 400 metres relay teams at both events. Pittman is one of only ten athletes (along with Valerie Adams, Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jacques Freitag, Yelena Isinbayeva, Kirani James, Dani Samuels, David Storl and Faith Kipyegon) to win world championships at the youth, junior, and senior level of an athletic event. Stephen Wooldridge
Stephen Brian Wooldridge (17 October 1977 – 14 August 2017) was an Australian racing cyclist, an Olympic and four-time world champion on the track. He was born in Sydney. He was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. In 2005, Wooldridge was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to sport as a gold medallist at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was inducted into the NSW Hall of Champions in 2015. Wooldridge committed suicide on 14 August 2017 at the age of 39. The method was not made public. Mark Renshaw (born 22 October 1982) is a retired Australian racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2004 and 2019 for the , , , , and teams. Luke Justin Roberts (born 25 January 1977) is a sports director and former Australian racing cyclist specialising in both track cycling and road bicycle racing. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, he resides both in Adelaide and in Cologne, Germany. Coming from a cycle racing family, he started competitive cycling at the age of 13, and turned professional in 2002. Ryan Neville Bayley OAM (born 9 March 1982) is an Australian professional track cyclist and double Olympic gold medallist. Biography Born in Perth, Western Australia, Bayley started competitive cycling in 1997 at fifteen years of age. Sean Eadie (born 15 April 1969 in Sydney, Australia) is a retired professional track cyclist. He lives in Como, New South Wales. He started cycling at 10 and became a professional in 1990. Despite competitive aggression on the track, he is a "gentle giant" off the track. Prior to becoming a full-time cyclist, Eadie was a kindergarten teacher. He was awarded a Diploma of Teaching (Primary) from the Australian Catholic University. In 2002 Eadie broke the Commonwealth Games record for a flying 200m in 10.145 on his way to winning silver in the sprint. Eadie competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens following controversy.
