Australia's National Research Organisation For Women's Safety
Australia's National Research Organisation for Women's Safety (ANROWS) is an independent, not-for-profit Australian company that aims to help to reduce violence against women and children. Its members are all nine governments of Australia (federal, state, and territory). It is responsible for increasing the evidence base of what reduces family violence and supporting people and organisations that contribute to this. It produces a research framework called the Australian National Research Agenda (ANRA). Our Watch
Our Watch, formerly Foundation to Prevent Violence Against Women and their Children, is an Australian organisation that exists to help prevent violence against women and their children. Founded in mid-2013 with Natasha Stott Despoja as founding chair, the organisation is based in Melbourne, Victoria. It is an independent non-profit organisation that is jointly funded by all states and territories of Australia. Since 2015, it has presented Our Watch Awards, administered by the Walkley Foundation, for excellence in reporting on gendered violence. Our Watch runs the website ''The Line'', aimed at educating young people aged 12 to 20 about respectful relationships and behavioural change. It also developed resources for schools, known as the Respectful Relationships program, which has been rolled out in schools across the state of Victoria. Domestic Violence In Australia
In Australia, domestic violence (DV) is defined by the ''Family Law Act 1975''. Each state and territory also has its own legislation, some of which broadens the scope of that definition, and terminology varies. It has been identified as a major health and welfare issue. Family violence occurs across all ages and demographic groups, but mostly affects women and children, and at particular risk are three groups: Indigenous, young and pregnant women. Statistics are difficult to extract and assess, owing to the way they are collected and the fact that many go unreported, but a 2018 report by the AIHW revealed that one in six women and one in nine men were physically and/or sexually abused before the age of 15, and a 2016 survey of the data showed that one in six women and one in 20 men had experienced at least one incidence of violence from a current or former partner since the age of 15 (or 23 per cent men, 77 per cent women). Griffith University is a public research university in South East Queensland on the east coast of Australia.
