Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (Latin: áːɾkus̠ auɾέːli.us̠ antɔ́ːni.us̠ English: ; 26 April 121 – 17 March 180) was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 AD and a Stoic philosopher. He was the last of the rulers known as the Five Good Emperors (a term coined some 13 centuries later by Niccolò Machiavelli), and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace and stability for the Roman Empire lasting from 27 BC to 180 AD. He served as Roman consul in 140, 145, and 161. Marcus Aurelius was born during the reign of Hadrian to the emperor's nephew, the praetor Marcus Annius Verus, and the heiress Domitia Calvilla. His father died when he was three, and his mother and grandfather raised him. After Hadrian's adoptive son, Aelius Caesar, died in 138, the emperor adopted Marcus's uncle Antoninus Pius as his new heir. In turn, Antoninus adopted Marcus and Lucius, the son of Aelius. Alessia Aureli
Alessia Aureli (born 17 June 1984) is an Italian former ice dancer. With Andrea Vaturi, she won three medals on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series and finished in the top ten at the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships. Career From 2001 through 2006, Aureli competed with Andrea Vaturi. They are the 2004 and 2005 Italian silver medalists and 2006 bronze medalists. In the 2007–2008 season, Aureli competed with Marco Garavaglia Marco Garavaglia (born 3 February 1986, in Milan) is an Italian ice dancer. Andrea Aureli (5 March 1923 – 5 November 2007) was an Italian actor. Life and career Born in Terni, Aureli graduated from the Liceo classico in his hometown, then he enrolled the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, graduating in 1947. Since the early 1950s he began an intense career as a character actor, being often cast in roles of villains and antagonists. In genre films, he was sometimes credited with the stage name Andrew Ray. He was also active in television films and series. Aureli retired from acting in 1998 and died in Rome on 5 November 2007 at 84 years old. His son Marco is a camera operator and an occasional actor. Cesare Aureli
Cesare Aureli (1844 in Rome – 1923) was an Italian sculptor and writer. Aureli was born in Rome, Italy. He began his studies at the Accademia di San Luca in that same city. Aureli began his career as a sculptor working on the Torlonia Museum, and in the studio of the sculptor Eduard Müller. His independent works recall the sculptures of Luca della Robbia, and can be admired on the facade of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. Aureli's statue of the St Thomas Aquinas was presented to Pope Leo XIII during his episcopal jubilee celebrations. There are two versions of this statue: the original in the Vatican Library (1889) and one under the entrance portico of the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas, ''Angelicum'' on the Quirinal Hill. Aureli also made a marble group ''Galileo showing his astronomic model to Milton'' (1912), deeded to the University of Rome.
