Lord Aubrey Beauclerk
Lord Aubrey Beauclerk (c. 1710 – 22 March 1741) was an officer of the Royal Navy. He saw service during the War of the Austrian Succession and was killed at the Battle of Cartagena de Indias. Early naval service Lord Aubrey was born circa 1710, the eighth son of Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans by his wife Diana. After some previous service he was made post-captain on 1 April 1731, and appointed to , which ship he commanded on the Leeward Islands station for about eighteen months. Through the years 1734-5 he commanded HMS ''Garland'' in the Mediterranean, and in 1737-9 on the same station. He returned home in January 1740, and was almost immediately appointed to the 60-gun , from which, in the course of the summer, he was transferred to the 70-gun HMS ''Prince Frederick'', one of the fleet which sailed for the West Indies with Sir Chaloner Ogle on 26 October 1740. Aubrey Beauclerk, 5th Duke of St Albans (3 June 1740 – 9 February 1802) was a British landowner, and a collector of antiquities and works of art. Early life Aubrey Beauclerk was born in 1740, the son of Admiral Vere Beauclerk, 1st Baron Vere (third son of Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans) and Mary Chambers (eldest daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Chambers of Hanworth Park, Middlesex). Career From 1761 to 1768, he served as Member of Parliament for Thetford; from 1768 to 1774 he was Member for Aldborough. In 1778, Beauclerk and his wife went to Rome, following rumours in the press concerning Catherine Beauclerk's relationship with Thomas Brand (junior). Brand accompanied the Beauclerks to Rome, abandoning his own wife and children. In 1779, Beauclerk financed an excavation with Thomas Jenkins at Centocelle, which produced several ancient sculptures. Aubrey Beauclerk, 6th Duke of St Albans (21 August 1765 – 12 August 1815) was an English aristocrat and politician. Early life Beauclerk was born on 21 August 1765. He was the eldest son of Aubrey Beauclerk, 5th Duke of St Albans by his wife Lady Catherine Ponsonby. Among his sibling were Lord William Beauclerk, Lord Amelius Beauclerk (First and Principal Naval Aide-de-Camp to King William IV), Lady Catherine Beauclerk (who married Rev. James Burgess, Vicar of Hanworth), and Lady Caroline Beauclerk (who married Hon. Charles Lawrence Dundas, fourth son of Thomas Dundas, 1st Baron Dundas). His father was the eldest surviving son of Vere Beauclerk, 1st Baron Vere (third son of Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St Albans) and Mary Chambers (eldest daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Chambers of Hanworth Park, Middlesex). Aubrey William de Vere Beauclerk (1801 – 1854) was a Radical British Member of Parliament (MP), who was elected to serve the dual-member East Surrey, making contributions in the Commons between 1833 and 1837, when he did not stand for re-election. One of his great-grandfathers was a younger son of the 1st Duke of St Albans (paternal-line-only), two of the others were the 3rd Duke of Marlborough and 2nd Duke of Richmond. Domestic life Beauclerk, born on 20 February 1801, was the son of Charles George Beauclerk and Emily Charlotte Ogilvie.
