Atriplex Paludosa Subsp. Baudinii
''Atriplex paludosa'' subsp. ''baudinii'' is subspecies of ''Atriplex paludosa'' (marsh saltbush) that is endemic to Western Australia. Description It grows as an erect shrub up to a metre high. Leaves are oval in shape, one to four centimetres long, 2 to 15 millimetres wide, and scaly all over. Taxonomy It was first published as ''Atriplex paludosa'' var. ''Baudini'' by Alfred Moquin-Tandon in 1849, based on specimens collected by during the Baudin expedition. The orthography of ''Baudini'' was later altered to ''baudinii''. At the same time, Moquin-Tandon published ''Atriplex drummondii'', based on specimens collected by James Drummond, but the latter name is now considered a taxonomic synonym of the former. Christian Horace Benedict Alfred Moquin-Tandon (7 May 1804 – 15 April 1863) was a French naturalist and doctor. Moquin-Tandon was professor of zoology at Marseille from 1829 until 1833, when he was appointed professor of botany and director of the botanical gardens at Toulouse. In 1850, he was sent by the French government to Corsica to study the island's flora. In 1853, he moved to Paris, later becoming director of the Jardin des Plantes and the Académie des Sciences. His books included ''L'Histoire Naturelle des Iles Canaries'' (1835–44), co-authored with Philip Barker Webb and Sabin Berthelot. One of his specialities was the family Amaranthaceae (The Amaranth family). The Baudin expedition of 1800 to 1803 was a French expedition to map the coast of New Holland (now Australia). Nicolas Baudin was selected as leader in October 1800. James Drummond (botanist)
James Drummond (late 1786 or early 1787 – 26 March 1863) was an Australian botanist and naturalist who was an early settler in Western Australia. Early life James Drummond was born in Inverarity, near Forfar, Angus, Scotland, the eldest son of Thomas Drummond, a gardener and botanist. His younger brother Thomas Drummond (1793–1835) was also a botanist. The latter emigrated to Cuba and died there. Both brothers originally worked with their father on the Fothringham estate in Inverarity. He was baptised on 8 January 1787. His father, Thomas Drummond, was a gardener at Fotheringham estate. ''Atriplex'' () is a plant genus of about 250 species, known by the common names of saltbush and orache (; also spelled orach). It belongs to the subfamily Chenopodioideae of the family Amaranthaceae ''s.l.''. The genus is quite variable and widely distributed.
