Athletics At The 2018 Commonwealth Games – Men's 800 Metres
The men's 800 metres at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, as part of the athletics programme, took place in the Carrara Stadium between 10 and 12 April 2018. The event was won by Wycliffe Kinyamal from Kenya as he finished ahead of the fast-finishing Kyle Langford who had come from sixth to second in the final straight. Carrara Stadium
Carrara Stadium (known commercially as Metricon Stadium) is a stadium on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, located in the suburb of Carrara. The stadium is primarily used for Australian rules football, serving as the home ground of the Gold Coast Suns, who compete in the Australian Football League. In addition, the venue is used occasionally for cricket, including Big Bash League matches. Carrara Stadium received substantial redevelopment work prior to the entry of the Brisbane Bears to the VFL/AFL in 1987, but following the Bears relocation to the Gabba in 1993, it was used for other sports including rugby league, rugby union and even baseball. The stadium has hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as the athletics competitions. Alex Beddoes
Alex Beddoes (born 9 July 1995) is a runner and athlete from the Cook Islands who has represented the Cook Islands at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games, and Pacific Mini Games. Career Beddoes first participated in the Oceania Closed Junior Championships. There, he successfully defeated Guamanian Cory Morrison at tennis. He competed in the 2013 Pacific Mini Games in Mata Utu, and then at the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, where he won gold in the 800 meters. Beddoes competed in the Men's 800 metres at the 2016 Summer Olympics, but finished ninth in his heat, for last place with a time of 1:52.76, and was eliminated. However, he did set a personal best. Elliot Giles (born 26 May 1994) is an English middle-distance runner from Birmingham, specialising in the 800 metres. He is best known for winning the bronze at the 2016 European Championships. Career In August 2014, he had a serious motorcycle accident which prevented him from competing for two years. His breakthrough year was 2016 when he became British champion over the distance, and was selected for the senior GB team for the first time at the European Athletics Championships where he won a surprise bronze medal. His new personal best of 1:45.54, set in the final, qualified him for the 2016 Summer Olympics. In Rio de Janeiro, however, he only managed seventh place in his heat which was not good enough for a place in the semifinals. Nijel Carlos Amilfitano Amos (born 15 March 1994) is a Motswana middle-distance runner who competes in the 800 metres. He won silver at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which was Botswana's first ever Olympic medal. Early life Nijel Amos is from Marobela village in the North Eastern part of Botswana. Guy Learmonth
Guy Learmonth (born 20 April 1992 in Berwick-upon-Tweed) is a Scottish and Great British athlete specialising in the 800 metres. His PB currently stands as 1:44.73 and he is the 3rd fastest Scottish 800m athlete of all time. Learmonth reached the final at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 European Indoor Championships, finishing 6th in both. He was named the GB&NI captain for the European Indoor Championships in 2019. Guy has broken the Scottish 800m Junior Record 9 times and holds the English AAA U20 Indoor & BUCS Championship records.
