Athletics At The 2016 Summer Paralympics – Women's 100 Metres
The Women's 100m athletics events for the 2016 Summer Paralympics take place at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange from September 8 to September 17, 2016. A total of 15 events were contested over this distance for 19 different classifications. There were no heats, and all eight athletes competed in the final. T35 As only seven athletes entered the T35 event, no heats were held and all athletes automatically qualified for the final. Athletics events at the 2016 Summer Paralympics were held in the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from September 2016. 177 events were held across both genders where 1,100 athletes competed. The athletics programme was the largest element of the Games programme in terms of entrants and medals awarded. Classification and events Athletes are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. Kym Crosby
Kym Crosby (born February 14, 1993) is an American para- track and field athlete who competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in the T13 100 metres and 400 metres. She won the bronze medal in the 100 metres and set a personal best. Early life Crosby was born on February 14, 1993, in Marysville, California to parents Paul and Pauline Crosby. She was born with albinism which left her legally blind. Upon her brother's encouragement, Crosby competed in track and field during her high school years. Career After graduating from River Valley High School, Crosby enrolled in California State University, Chico and competed on their track team. As a junior at Chico, Crosby qualified for the United States Paralympic team and made their 2016 Summer Paralympics roster. In her debut Games, Crosby competed in the T13 100 metres and 400 metres. Sophie Hahn
Sophie Megan Hahn, (born 23 January 1997) is a parasport athlete from England competing mainly in T38 sprint events. In 2013, she qualified for the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships, selected for the T38 100m and 200m. She took the gold in the 100m sprint, setting a new world record. Georgina Hermitage, (born 28 March 1989) is a former British parasport athlete competing in T37 sprint events. In 2015, she qualified for the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha, selected for the T37 100m and 200m. She took the gold in the 400m sprint, setting a new world record. Personal history Hermitage was born in Guildford, England in 1989. She has cerebral palsy which mainly affects the left side of her body. She was educated at George Abbot School in her home town. In 2012 Hermitage gave birth to her first child. Sporting career Hermitage took up athletics as a school girl and joined Guildford & Godalming Athletics Club. At the age of 14, frustrated by her lack of progress compared to her peers, she was approached by coach Hazel Childs who suggested she switch to parasports.
