The women's heptathlon competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was won by Nafissatou Thiam of Belgium. Akela Jones
Akela Jones (born 22 April 1995) is a Barbadian track and field athlete who holds Barbadian records in the women's heptathlon, pentathlon, long jump and high jump. She won gold in the long jump at the 2014 World Junior Championships. In 2015, she was NCAA champion in the heptathlon and won bronze in the high jump at the Pan American Games. Early career Jones first competed in the CARIFTA Games as a 12-year-old in 2008, winning silver in the under-17 girls' high jump with a jump of 1.71 m. On 20 March 2009 Jones cleared 1.81 m in Bridgetown; , this remains the age 13 world best. At the 2009 CARIFTA Games she repeated her silver from the previous year, clearing 1.80 m to equal the championship record but losing to Jamaica's Petergaye Reid on countback. Sylvia Barlag
Sylvia Johanna Martha Barlag (born 4 May 1954) is a retired track and field athlete and physicist from the Netherlands. She competed in pentathlon at the 1980 Summer Olympics and finished in 10th place. Between 1979 and 1981 she was the national champion in high jump. Biography Barlag holds a PhD in physics from the University of Amsterdam (1984). Between 1983 and 1989 she worked as a researcher at CERN, more specific in the Obelix experiment for LEAR, as part of the collaborative charm hadroproduction experiment for Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) as well as in DELPHI for LEP. After Cern in 1989 and until 2006 she worked at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute. Barlag got married in 1987 and has two children. Pierre-Olivier, Baron Beckers-Vieujant (Uccle, 3 May 1960) is a Belgian businessman and former CEO of Delhaize. Biography Born Pierre-Olivier Beckers, he is the youngest of the six children of Guy Beckers, a former president and CEO of Delhaize. Laura Ikauniece (formerly Laura Ikauniece-Admidiņa; born 31 May 1992) is a Latvian athlete competing in heptathlon. Participated in two Olympic Games. 2012 London Olympics 6414 points 7th place, 2016 Rio de Janeiro 6617 points 4th place. Her personal best and also the Latvian record is 6815 points, achieved in 2017 at Hypomeeting, Götzis. She achieved 6516 points at the 2015 World Championships, where she won a bronze medal. Carolin Schäfer (born 5 December 1991) is a German athlete who specialises in the heptathlon. She won the silver medal in the event at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. Schäfer took bronze at the 2018 European Athletics Championships. At the age of 15, she won the silver medal at the 2007 World Youth Championships.
