The Women's 5000 metres competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event final was held at the Olympic Stadium on 10 of August. From the start of the final Joanne Pavey took the lead, with Dibaba moving into the fourth position in the procession, ready to cover any moves. After about four laps Elena Romagnolo took up the front position for a few laps, to be replaced again with Pavey. At the 3K mark, Julia Bleasdale moved in behind her teammate, but in the next 200 metres, Dibaba decided it was time to take up the lead. The pace accelerated markedly, with the Ethiopian and Kenyan teams coming to the front and the others falling off the back. Fionnuala McCormack (née Britton; born 24 September 1984 in Wicklow) is an Irish runner who has competed at a range of distance running events. She was the gold medallist at the 2011 and 2012 European Cross Country Championships. Barbara Parker (athlete)
Barbara Angela Parker (born 8 November 1982) is an English track and field athlete who competes for Great Britain. She has competed in two Olympic Games and is the former UK record holder in the 3000 metres steeplechase. Personal life Parker was born in King's Lynn, Norfolk, England and lives in Alabama. She studied a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at the College of West Anglia from 1999-2001. Career At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Parker represented Great Britain in the 3000 metres steeplechase. She was eliminated in the heats, running 9:51.93. Kayoko Fukushi
is a Japanese long-distance runner, who specializes in the 5000, 10,000 metres and marathon. Fukushi represented Japan at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the bronze medallist in the marathon at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. She holds a marathon best of 2:22:17 hours. Fukushi won two silver medals at the 2002 Asian Games and then won the 10,000 m gold medal at the 2006 edition. She is a former world record holder in the 15 km road race and is the Japanese record holder in the 5000 m, 10,000 m, and 10K road distance. Fukushi is also a six-time national champion over the 5000 m. Silvia Weissteiner (born 13 July 1979 in Sterzing/Vipiteno) is an Italian long-distance runner. Biography She is a two-time national champion in the women's 5000 metres. Tejitu Daba Chalchissa (born 20 August 1991) is an Ethiopian-born long-distance runner who competes internationally for Bahrain. She competes mainly in cross country and track running events. She won the gold medal over 5000 metres at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships. Tejitu began running for Bahrain in 2009 and her first outing for her adopted country came at the Asian Cross Country Championships, where she was second in the junior ranks behind Shitaye Eshete (another Ethiopian-turned-Bahraini). Julie Culley
Julie Culley (born September 10, 1981) is an American track and field athlete, who competes in middle distance track events. Culley represented the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the 5000 m. While competing for Rutgers University, Culley was an All-American in Cross Country her senior year. Despite often battling injuries, she set school records in the 3000 m, 5000 m, and Distance Medley Relay, and was a Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year. Culley went on to coach at Loyola College in Baltimore from 2004 - 2007, before deciding to focus on running professionally. Culley went on to coach at Georgetown University in September 2014. At the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Culley finished 7th in the 5000 m, with a time of 15:34.43. Olga Gennadyevna Golovkina (Ольга Геннадьевна Головкина; born 17 December 1986 in Perm) is a Russian athlete. She won the gold medal in the 5000 m at the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in a time of 15:11.70 minutes. Golovkina finished second in the 5000m at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan behind Roxana Bârcă of Romania. She was subsequently upgraded to first place after Bârcă failed the post-race doping control, even though Golovkina herself then tested positive in an out-of-competition drugs test just five days after the race, for use of the prohibited anabolic steroid Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone. Viola Jelagat Kibiwot (born 22 December 1983 in Keiyo District) is a runner from Kenya who specialises in the 1500 metres. Kibiwot won her first international medal as a junior runner at the 2000 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, where she took the bronze medal for Kenya. Consecutive world junior cross country titles followed at the 2001 and 2002 editions of the event, and she also claimed the gold medal over 1500 m at the 2002 World Junior Championships in Athletics. After becoming a senior runner, she struggled to match her junior success. She was outside of the top twenty in the senior short race at the 2003 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and again at the 2005 race.
