The men's javelin throw event at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place on 21 and 23 August at the Beijing National Stadium. The qualification mark was set at 82.50 metres. The qualifying standards were 81.80 m (268.37 ft) (A standard) and 77.80 m (255.25 ft) (B standard). Beijing National Stadium
The National Stadium (), also known as the Bird's Nest (), is an 80,000-capacity stadium in Beijing. The stadium was jointly designed by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron from Basel-based architecture team Herzog & de Meuron, project architect Stefan Marbach, artist Ai Weiwei, and CADG, which was led by chief architect Li Xinggang. Yukifumi Murakami
is a Japanese javelin thrower. He was the first Japanese athlete to win a World Championship medal in the javelin, taking bronze at the 2009 edition with a throw of 82.97 metres. He was successful as a junior athlete and won the bronze medal in the javelin at the 1998 World Junior Championships in Athletics. He established himself as one of Asia's top throwers in the following years, winning silver medals at the 2001 East Asian Games, 2002 Asian Games, and the 2003 Asian Athletics Championships. His first global appearance was at the 2004 Summer Olympics and he finished 18th overall in the final rankings. The 2005 World Championships in Athletics was his next major tournament but he finished in 27th place with a disappointing throw of 68.31 m. Jarrod Bannister (3 October 1984 – 8 February 2018) was an Australian track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. His personal best throw of 89.02 metres, achieved in 2008, is the Australian and Oceanian record. Career Bannister was born in Townsville, Queensland on 3 October 1984. Scott Russell (athletics)
Scott Russell (born January 16, 1979, in Windsor, Ontario) is a former Canadian javelin thrower. He finished first at the 1998 World Junior Championships, tenth at the 2001 Summer Universiade, won a silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, finished twelfth at the 2005 World Championships, eighth at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and tenth at the 2008 Olympic Games. He also competed at the World Championships in 2001 and 2007 without reaching the final round. Russell holds the Canadian record for javelin throw, with a throw of 84.81 metres on July 13, 2011, at the Toronto International Track and Field Games. When he is not in the Olympics, he teaches Health and Physical Education for Basehor-Linwood middle school in Kansas. He also coached for Lawrence High J-Squad in 2008–2009. Vítězslav Veselý () (born 27 February 1983) is a Czech javelin thrower. He won two bronze medals at the Olympic games, in 2012 and 2020.
