Athletics At The 2004 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2004 Summer Paralympics included 17 events for men and 15 events for women, in 5 disciplines. Athletes competed in one of four disability categories: * Blind or visually impaired athletes – Sport classes 11 to 13. * Athletes with cerebral palsy – Sport classes 32 to 34 (wheelchair) and 35 to 38 (standing) * Amputee and les autres athletes – Sport classes 40 ( dwarfism) and 42 to F46 (standing amputees). * Wheelchair athletes – Sport classes 51 to 54 (track events) and 51 to 58 (field events). Athens Olympic Stadium
The Olympic Stadium of Athens " Spyros Louis" ( el, Ολυμπιακό Στάδιο Αθηνών "Σπύρος Λούης", ''Olympiakó Stádio Athinon "Spyros Louis"'') is a sports stadium in Athens, Greece. It is a part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex and is named after the first modern Olympic marathon gold medalist in 1896, Spyros Louis. The stadium used to host some of the biggest sport clubs in Greece like Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and AEK Athens. The stadium served as the main stadium during the 2004 Summer Olympics. History Located in the area of Marousi in Athens, the stadium was originally designed in 1980 and built in 1980–1982. It was completed in time to host the 1982 European Championships in Athletics. Tim Sullivan (athlete)
Timothy ("Tim") Francis Sullivan, OAM (born 16 September 1975) is an Australian Paralympic athlete. Personal Sullivan as born in Melbourne, Australia. When Tim was eight years old, he was riding his bike to the Park with his sister and a friend, when they where approached by a couple of kids. One had a broken glass bottle and was threatening them. They started to chase Sullivan with the bottle, due to this he ran on to the road and was struck by a car. From this accident Sullivan suffered cerebral palsy. It limits his verbal communication: he speaks in tiny, fast sentences and sometimes one word answers It has also limited the use of the right side of his body. Darren Thrupp
Darren Brian Thrupp, OAM (born 6 December 1966) is an Australian Paralympic athlete competing mainly in category T37 sprint events. He has won nine medals at six Paralympics. Biography Thrupp was born in the Queensland town of Kilcoy. He acquired a brain injury in a car accident on a dusty Queensland road in February 1985 on the way home from a cricket match against Surat. The accident affected the right side of his body, in a way similar to hemiplegic cerebral palsy. Before the accident, like many young men from country Queensland, he was involved in running, cricket and playing A-grade rugby league for the Wallumbilla Herefords. He was looking forward to a rugby league career. The people of Roma encouraged him to take up athletics. In 1987, he attended a Sporting Wheelies "come and try" day and his times qualified him for the 1988 Seoul Games. Yang Chen (Paralympic Athlete)
Yang Chen (, born 1989 in Tianjin) is a Paralympian athlete from China competing mainly in category T37 sprint events. Biography Yang Chen competed in the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. He won a gold medal in the T37 100m and silver medals in the T37 200m, T37 400m and was part of the Chinese relay teams that won silver medals in both the T35-38 4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m relays. Wa Wai So
So Wa Wai (; born 6 October 1981) is a retired athlete from Hong Kong who has competed in the Paralympic Games on five occasions, winning 12 medals. So Wa Wai is called the "Wonder Boy" () by the people in Hong Kong.
