Athletics At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's Pole Vault
The men's pole vault event at the 2000 Summer Olympics as part of the athletics program was held at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, 27 September and Friday, 29 September. Thirty-six athletes from 22 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Nick Hysong of the United States, the nation's first victory in the event since its 16-Games streak (from 1896 to 1968) ended. The American team also took silver, as Lawrence Johnson finished second. Maksim Tarasov became the seventh man to win multiple pole vault medals, and the second to do so under two different flags, adding a bronze to his 1992 gold (for the Unified Team). Igor Potapovich
Igor Potapovich (Игорь Потапович; born September 6, 1967, in Almaty) is a former pole vault athlete from Kazakhstan. Potapovich won his first World Junior Championship in 1986. He won the World Cup in 1992. He also finished second at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships and became the indoor World Champion two years later in 1997. Potapovich also won the Asian Games in 1994 and the 1998 1998 was designated as the ''International Year of the Ocean''. Daniel "Danny" Ecker (born 21 July 1977 in Leverkusen) is a former German athlete competing in the pole vault. Biography His current personal best is 5.93 metres, but through his indoor best performance of 6.00 metres he has a place in the so-called 6 metres club. 5.93 ranks him fourth among German pole vaulters, behind Tim Lobinger, Andrei Tivontchik and Michael Stolle. He won a bronze medal at the 2007 IAAF World Championships and the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships and placed fourth at the 1999 World Championships. Andrei Tivontchik
Andrei Tivontchik ( be, Андрэй Цівончык; born 13 July 1970, in Gorkiy) is a former German pole vaulter. He was Olympic bronze medalist at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Tivontchik grew up in the Soviet Union and became a Belarusian citizen after the Soviet dissolution. In 1993 he moved to Germany and became a German citizen. Beginning with the 1994 European Championships he started for the German team. Tivontchik could not take part in the 2000 Olympics and retired in 2001. His personal best is 5.95 metres, achieved in 1996.
