Athletics At The 1980 Summer Olympics – Men's 200 Metres
The men's 200 metres was an event at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. The competition was held on July 27, 1980, and on July 28, 1980. There were 57 competitors from 37 nations. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Pietro Mennea of Italy, the nation's first victory in the event since 1960 and second overall (tied for second-most with Canada behind the United States' 12 wins). Great Britain earned its first medal in the men's 200 metres since 1928 with Allan Wells' silver. Don Quarrie of Jamaica, the defending champion, took bronze. Mennea (the 1972 bronze medalist) and Quarrie were the fifth and sixth men to earn multiple medals in the event. Luzhniki Stadium ( rus, стадион «Лужники», p=stədʲɪˈon lʊʐnʲɪˈkʲi, ''Stadion Luzhniki'') is the national stadium of Russia, located in its capital city, Moscow. Cameron Sharp
Robert Cameron Sharp (born 3 June 1958) is a Scottish former sprint (running), sprinter. In 1978 he won a gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Games in Edmonton in the 4 × 100 m relay alongside David Jenkins (athlete), David Jenkins, Allan Wells, and Drew McMaster. He went on to compete in the Athletics at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games picking up three bronze medals, in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4x100 metres relay. In 1975 he won the Scottish schoolboys 100 and 200 championships. He went on to compete at the 1980 Summer Olympic Games in Moscow in the 100m, 200m where he reached the semi finals of both sprints, and was a member of the 4 × 100 m relay where the U.K. finished 4th in the final in a new British record. Nabil Nahri
Nabil Nahri ( ar, نبيل نهري; born 10 June 1958) is a former athlete and best Syrian sprinter of all time. He competed in the men's 100 metres and men's 200 metres at the 1980 Summer Olympics. In the qualifying 100 m run, he took fifth place in his race (10.67 s), but did not advance to the further part of the competition (34th out of 65 sprinters). It was similar in the 200 m race, Nahri achieved fifth result in the heat (22.14 s) and did not qualify for the next round (40th out of 57 runners). Mike McFarlane
Michael Anthony McFarlane OBE (born 2 May 1960) is a retired British athlete who competed mainly in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He won an Olympic silver medal in the 4×100 metres relay at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He was the 200 m gold medallist at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and a 60 metres gold medallist at the 1985 European Athletics Indoor Championships. McFarlane won two further sprint medals at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. Biography He lived in the London Borough of Hackney. He started out as a schoolboy winning the English schoolboys' 200 metres on three occasions. This success continued as he went on to win the AAA's junior Indoor 60/200 metre titles. Olaf Prenzler (born 2 April 1958) is an East German former sprinter who specialised in the 100 and 200 metres. Career Prenzler was born in 1958 in Kästorf near Gifhorn in Lower Saxony, Germany. He was a European Junior silver medallist in the 100 metres in 1977. In 1979 he was the East German 100 metres champion; he also won the national 200 metres in 1978, and 1983. Prenzler was the East German indoor 200 metres champion on three occasions. At the 1978 European Championships he won silver medals in the 200 metres and in the 4 × 100 metres relay, the latter with teammates Manfred Kokot, Eugen Ray and Alexander Thieme.
