Athletics At The 1932 Summer Olympics – Men's Triple Jump
The men's triple jump event at the 1932 Olympic Games took place August 4. Sixteen athletes from 12 nations competed. The 1930 Olympic Congress in Berlin had reduced the limit from 4 athletes per NOC to 3 athletes.Official Report, p. 377. Chūhei Nambu of Japan won gold with a world record breaking jump. It was Japan's second consecutive gold medal in the men's triple jump; Japan also became the third nation (after the United States and Sweden) to have two medalists in the event in the same Games as Kenkichi Oshima took bronze. Sweden took its first medal in the event since 1920 with Erik Svensson's silver. Background This was the ninth appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. Athletics At The 1932 Summer Olympics
At the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, 29 athletics events were contested. It was the first time the 50 kilometres race walk appeared in the athletic program at the Games. This was the second time women's events in athletics were included in the Olympic Games program and the first time that women competed in the javelin throw and 80m hurdles at the Olympics. There was a total of 386 participants from 34 countries competing. The athletics events took place at Los Angeles Olympic Stadium, now the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Rolland Lee Romero (August 21, 1914 – November 25, 1975) was an American triple jumper. He was national champion in 1935 and competed in the 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics. Biography Romero was born in Welsh, Louisiana on August 21, 1914. At Welsh High School he played football and competed in a variety of track and field events. From the fall of 1931 he attended Loyola University New Orleans, receiving an athletic scholarship midway through his freshman year; originally, the 120 yard hurdles were his main event, but he dropped it soon due to awkward falls and turned to the triple jump. Romero developed rapidly; his season best in 1932 was 49 ft  in (15.20 m), the best jump by an American since Dan Ahearn in 1913.
