Athletics At The 1932 Summer Olympics – Men's 400 Metres
The men's 400 metres sprint event at the 1932 Olympic Games took place on August 4 and August 5 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Twenty-seven athletes from 15 nations competed. The 1930 Olympic Congress in Berlin had reduced the limit from 4 athletes per NOC to 3 athletes.Official Report, p. 377. The event was won by Bill Carr of the United States, that nation's second consecutive title and sixth overall in the event (all by different men). Ben Eastman's silver marked the first time countrymen had gone one-two in the event since the United States did it at the first three Olympics (1896, 1900, and 1904, including a podium sweep in 1904). Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (also known as the L.A. Coliseum) is a multi-purpose stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Conceived as a hallmark of civic pride, the Coliseum was commissioned in 1921 as a memorial to Los Angeles veterans of World War I. Godfrey Rampling
Godfrey Lionel Rampling (14 May 1909 – 20 June 2009) was an English athlete and army officer who competed for Great Britain in the 1932 Summer Olympics and in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He turned 100 on 14 May 2009 and was the oldest living British Olympian at the time of his death. Life and career Rampling was born in Blackheath, London, the son of Gertrude Anne (Taylor) and Horace Johnson Rampling, a costumier. Rampling won the British AAA championships in the in 1931 and 1934. Felix Rinner
Felix Rinner (6 January 1911 – 2 April 1976) was an Austrian sprinter and an officer of the Austrian SS. He competed in the men's 200 metres at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Rinner was a ten time national champion across four different sprint events in the 1930s. When Austria was annexed by Germany, on March 11, 1938, he led a command of 40 armed SS men who forced their way in and occupied the Austrian Federal Chancellery. Crew Stoneley
Brigadier Crew Hadlett Stoneley OBE (9 May 1911 – 27 August 2002) was an English athlete who competed for Great Britain in the 1932 Summer Olympics. He was born in Leeds, educated at Blundell's School and in 1931 received his commission in the British Army. Stoneley retired in 1964 as a Brigadier and served as Colonel Commandant of the Royal Signals. He died in Dorset.
