Athletics At The 1924 Summer Olympics – Men's High Jump
The men's high jump event was part of the track and field athletics programme at the 1924 Summer Olympics. The competition was held from Sunday, July 6, 1924, and Monday, July 7, 1924. Twenty-seven high jumpers from 17 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation was 4. The event was won by Harold Osborn of the United States, the nation's seventh consecutive victory in the men's high jump. As in 1920, the Americans went 1–2 in the event, with Leroy Brown earning silver. France took its first high jump medal since 1908 with Pierre Lewden's bronze. Background This was the seventh appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. The only returning finalist from the 1920 Games was seventh-place finisher Pierre Lewden of France. Robert Joicey Dickinson (20 May 1901 – 5 March 1981) was a British athlete, who competed at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Career Dickinson attended Harrow School and in 1920, won the London Athletic Club Schools' Meeting. While studying at Oriel College, Oxford he won the Oxford versus Cambridge varsity match in 1923 and 1924. Silvio Cator
Sylvio or Silvio Paul Cator (October 19, 1900 – July 21, 1952) was a Haitian athlete, most successful in the long jump. He earned a silver medal in the long jump at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Biography Born in Cavaillon, Haiti, Cator was a footballer who played for the Trivoli Athletic Club and the Racing Club Haïtien. He participated in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris in the high jump, where he finished 15th, and the long jump, where he came in 12th. In the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam he won a silver medal in the long jump. His 7.58 m effort was 16 cm short of gold ( Edward Hamm). A month later, on September 9, 1928, Sylvio Cator broke Edward Hamm's two-month-old world record with a 7.93 m jump at the 1924 Olympic stadium near Paris. He participated one more time in the long jump at the 1932 games in Los Angeles, where he took the 9th place. Larry Stanley (athlete)
Larry Stanley (19 May 1896 – 21 September 1987) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Kildare and Dublin county teams. Biography Regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation, Stanley made his first appearance on the inter-county scene during the 1916 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for both Kildare and Dublin until his retirement after the 1930 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals and three Leinster medals. Stanley captained Kildare to the All-Ireland title in 1919. At club level Stanley enjoyed a hugely successful career with Caragh, winning two county club championship. He also played with O'Tooles and the Garda club in Dublin. Ivar Sahlin (16 December 1895 – 24 November 1980) was a Swedish Track and field, track and field athlete who competed in the 1920 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics. Career Sahlin born in Sundsvall, won the British AAA Championships title in the triple jump event at the 1914 AAA Championships. At the 1920 Olympic Games, Sahlin finished fourth in the Athletics at the 1920 Summer Olympics – Men's triple jump, triple jump competition. Four years later at the 1924 Olympic Games, he was eliminated in the qualification of the Athletics at the 1924 Summer Olympics - Men's triple jump, triple jump competition and finished eighth overall.
