The men's javelin throw was one of six throwing events on the Athletics at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme in London. The javelin was required to be held in the middle. The competition was held on 17 July 1908. 16 throwers from six nations competed. NOCs could enter up to 12 athletes.Official report, p. 32. Eric Lemming
Eric Otto Valdemar Lemming (22 February 1880 – 5 June 1930) was a Swedish track and field athlete who competed at the 1900, 1906, 1908 and 1912 Olympics in a wide variety of events, which mostly involved throwing and jumping. He had his best results in the javelin throw, which he won at the 1906–1912 Games, and in which he set multiple world records between 1899 and 1912. His last record, measured at 62.32 m, was ratified by the International Association of Athletics Federations as the first official world record. Javelin throw was not part of the 1900 Olympics, where Lemming finished fourth in the hammer throw, high jump and pole vault. Juho Halme
Johan Valdemar "Juho" Halme (born Johan Valdemar Eliasson; 24 May 1888, in Helsinki – 1 February 1918, in Helsinki) was a Finnish track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 and 1912 Summer Olympics and won six Finnish championships in various events in 1907–1916. Hugo Wieslander
Karl Hugo Wieslander (11 June 1889 – 24 May 1976) was a Sweden, Swedish Athletics (sport), athlete. He set the inaugural world record in the pentathlon in Gothenburg in 1911 with a score of 5516 points. The following year he finished second in the decathlon at the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, 688 points behind Jim Thorpe. In 1913, after it was discovered that Thorpe had played semi-professional baseball for a minor league team, Thorpe was disqualified for not being an amateur. Wieslander was declared the winner of the 1912 Olympics event and awarded the gold medal, which he refused to accept. In 1982 Thorpe was reinstated by the IOC with Hugo Wieslander as joint winners of the 1912 Olympic decathlon. Jimmy Tremeer
Leonard Francis Tremeer (1 August 1874 – 21 October 1951), known as Jimmy Tremeer, was an Olympic bronze medallist in the men's 400 metres hurdles at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He competed on the Great Britain and Ireland team. Tremeer had no competition in the first round, winning in a walkover. For the second round, he faced teammate G. Burton, who did not finish the race. In the final, Tremeer had to contend against two Americans who had taken turns setting new Olympic records in the first two rounds of the event. John Johansen (26 February 1883 – 15 October 1947) was a Norwegian sprinter. Participating at the 1908 Summer Olympics, Johansen placed second in his first round 100 metres heat with a time of 11.7 seconds. His loss to Robert Cloughen, who had run the course in 11.0 seconds, resulted in Johansen's elimination from competition. Jarl Gustaf Anian Jakobsson (11 May 1880 – 28 December 1951) was a Finnish track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. Athletics Jarl Jakobsson with his brother Evert emerged as javelin specialists in the summer of 1906. Their success was based on an alteration on the grip of the javelin. They had stapled two bits of stiff cord on it, improving its support for fingers. The existing world record for two handed javelin throw by Eric Lemming was 91.28 metres, but with their enhancement, Jarl broke it with 91.41 metres. It was then improved by Evert to 98.47, followed by Lemming imitating their grip and taking back the record with 104.40 metres. Athletics Evert Jakobsson with his brother Jarl emerged as javelin specialists in the summer of 1906. Their success was based on an alteration on the grip of the javelin. Carl Bechler
Karl Bechler (15 February 1886 – 29 March 1945) was a German athlete, born in Danzig. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. In the 100 metres, Bechler finished second in his first round heat with a time of 11.4 seconds, just behind winner Patrick Roche. The loss meant Bechler did not advance to the semifinals. Jalmari Verneri Sauli (born Hjalmar Verner Saxelin; 17 August 1889 – 22 April 1957) was a Finnish writer and track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics.
