Athletics At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were held in the National Stadium in Tokyo. There was 167 medal events: 93 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event. It was the largest contest of the Games programme regarding athlete numbers and medal events to be scheduled. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were instead held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Classification and events Participating athletes are given a classification depending on their disabilities (T denotes track events, F denotes field events). Raoua Tlili ( ar, روعة التليلي; born October 5, 1989) is a Paralympian athlete from Tunisia competing mainly in category F41 shot put and discus events and is a multi gold medalist at the Paralympics. Career Tlili made her senior international debut back in 2006, she competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China, there she won a gold medal in the women's shot put F40 event throwing a new world record of 8.95 meters and also a silver medal in the women's discus throw F40 event. Lauritta Onye (born 4 January 1984) is a Paralympian athlete who competes in F40 classification throwing events. Renata Śliwińska (born 5 September 1996) is a Polish Paralympic athlete competing in F40-classification discus throw and shot put events. She won the gold medal in the women's shot put F40 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Mi Na (; born August 5, 1986) is a Paralympic athlete from China. She competes in throwing events for F37 classification cerebral palsy athletes. From April 2014 until September 2016 she held the women's F37 World Record in the shot put. She holds the world record in the F37 discus throw. Lisa Adams (born 18 November 1990) is a New Zealand Paralympic F37 shot putter and F38 discus thrower. Adams competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, and won a gold medal in Women's shot put F37, setting 4 Paralympics records in the process. Early life and athletic career Adams was born and grew up in Rotorua, New Zealand. She was diagnosed with left hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy, at an early age. She played netball and basketball when she was growing up, and played rugby with the Waikite women's able-bodied team in 2017.
