Athletics At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2020 Summer Paralympics were held in the National Stadium in Tokyo. There was 167 medal events: 93 for men, 73 for women and one mixed event. It was the largest contest of the Games programme regarding athlete numbers and medal events to be scheduled. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were instead held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Classification and events Participating athletes are given a classification depending on their disabilities (T denotes track events, F denotes field events). Hamed Heidari or Abdollah Heidari Til is an iranian-born Paralympian athlete competing mainly in category Javelin Throw - F57 events who represented Iran until 2017 after which he has represented the Republic of Azerbaijan. Biography Hamed Heidari was born in Ardabil in Azerbijani family. He was injured during wartime and has limb deficiency. He took up Para athletics in 2009. His international debut was in 2015 in United Arab Emirates when he represented Iran. He won a silver medal in the F57 javelin throw at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. F57 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position. This class is for people with limb deficiencies not covered by other classes. It includes people who are members of the ISOD A1 and A9 classes. Events open to people in this class include the shot put, discus and javelin. Definition International Paralympic Committee defined this classification on their website in July 2016, " Athletes who meet one or more of the MDC for impaired muscle power, limb deficiency, impaired passive range of movement and leg length difference, who do not fit any of the previously described profiles, fall into this class." Justin Phongsavanh ( lo, ຈັສຕິນ ພົງສະຫວັນ) (born May 19, 1997) is an American Paralympic athlete who specializes in javelin throw. He represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Phongsavanh made his international debut for the United States at the 2019 Parapan American Games where he won a gold medal in the javelin throw F54 event. In June 2021, during the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials for Track and Field, Phongsavanh set the javelin throw world record with a distance of 33.29 meters. Alexey Alexeyevich Kuznetsov (; born 3 April 1981) is a Paralympian athlete from Russia who competes in category F54 throwing events. He participated in the 2008 and 2012 Paralympics and won a silver medal in the javelin throw in 2012. Personal history Kuznetsov was born in Saransk in the former Soviet Union in 1981. At the age of five he fell from a fifth floor of a building, resulting in a spinal trauma. F54 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics for people who compete in field events from a seated position. Different disability groups compete in this class, including people with spinal cord injuries. Events that may be on the program for F54 competitors include the discus throw, shot put and javelin. Sundar Singh Gurjar (born 1 January 1996 in Karauli, Rajasthan) is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower, shot putter and discus thrower competing in F46 events. He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event. Devendra Jhajharia
Devendra Jhajharia (born 10 June 1981) is an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower competing in F46 events. He is the first Indian Paralympics player to win two gold medals at the Paralympics.
