Athletics At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's 110 Metres Hurdles
The men's 110 metre hurdles at the 2004 Summer Olympics as part of the athletics program were held at the Athens Olympic Stadium from August 24 to 27. Forty-seven athletes from 34 nations competed. The event was won by Liu Xiang of China, the nation's first medal in the event. Terrence Trammell and Anier García became the 11th and 12th men to win multiple medals in the 110 metres hurdles. Summary Ladji Doucouré was the leader in all of the preliminary rounds, but in the final, Liu Xiang led from the gun, running a flawless race to take the Olympic record and match Colin Jackson's world record with an identical 12.91. Behind him, returning silver medalist Terrence Trammell had a slight lead despite touching nearly every hurdle. Dudley Dorival (born 1 September 1975) is a retired Haitian hurdler. He was born in Elizabeth, United States. Dorival graduated from Ewing High School in 1993 and attended and competed at the University of Connecticut. He is best known for his bronze medal in 110 metres hurdles at the 2001 World Championships, which he won in a personal best time of 13.25 seconds. Maurice Wignall
Maurice Wignall (born 17 April 1976) is a Jamaican hurdling athlete. His first appearance in a major international championship was at the 1997 World Championships, where he competed in the long jump competition. He jumped 8.09, which still stands as his personal best. Wignall's success in hurdling came relatively late. He took his first medal, a bronze medal, at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. At the 2004 World Indoor Championships, Wignall won the bronze medal in 60 m hurdles which is the distance used indoor. Later that year he competed in the Olympic 110 metres Hurdles where he placed fourth in the final, missing the bronze medal by one hundredth of a second. In the semi final he set a new national record with a time of 13.17. At the end of the 2004 season Wignall won the silver medal in the 2nd IAAF World Athletics Final. Todd Matthews-Jouda (born June 20, 1979) is a hurdling athlete, who is notable for having switched nationality from United States to Sudan in September 2003. His personal best is 13.36 seconds, but being set in 2002 (i.e. before he switched to Sudan), it is not a national record. Instead, his Sudanese record is 13.45, a result which he achieved in October 2004. His first major international tournament for Sudan was the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, where he won a gold medal.
