Athletics At The 1960 Summer Olympics – Men's Discus Throw
The men's discus throw throwing event at the 1960 Summer Olympics took place on September 6 & September 7. Thirty-five athletes from 22 nations competed. The maximum number of athletes per nation had been set at 3 since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The event was won by Al Oerter of the United States, the nation's third consecutive and 10th overall victory in the men's discus throw. It was Oerter's second gold medal in the event; he would go on to win four. Oerter was the sixth man to win two medals in the event, and the third to win two gold medals. The United States earned its second consecutive and third overall medal sweep in the event, as Rink Babka took silver and Dick Cochran bronze. Olympic Stadium (Rome)
The Stadio Olimpico (English: ''Olympic Stadium'') is the largest sports facility in Rome, Italy, seating over 70,000 spectators. It is located within the Foro Italico sports complex, north of the city. The structure is owned by the Italian National Olympic Committee and it is used primarily for association football. Stein Haugen
Stein Haugen (10 January 1933 – 31 March 2008) was a Norwegian discus thrower. He was born in Lom, but represented IL i BUL. He died in March 2008 in Bærum. At the 1960 Summer Olympics he finished eleventh in the discus final with a throw of 53.36 metres. He competed in the European Championships in 1958 and 1962, without reaching the final. He became Norwegian champion in discus throw in the years 1958–1964. In 1959 and 1960 he became national champion in shot put as well. Carmelo Rado
Carmelo Rado (born 4 August 1933) is an Italian athletics competitor. He competed for his native country in the discus throw at the 1960 Olympics held in his home country, finishing in seventh place. He also competed in the 1962 European Athletics Championships. Biography Rado grew up in Biella, and has lived in South Africa and San Donato Milanese. He currently lives in Calusco d'Adda, Bergamo. Lothar Milde
Lothar Milde (born 8 November 1934) was an East German athlete who competed mainly in the discus throw. He was born in Halle an der Saale. Milde competed at three Olympic Games winning the silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico.
