Athletics At The 1948 Summer Olympics – Men's 10 Kilometres Walk
The men's 10 kilometres walk event at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games took place from 3 to 7 August. The final was won by Swede John Mikaelsson. This was the first time since 1924 the event took place. John Mikaelsson
John Frederik Mikaelsson (6 December 1913 – 16 June 1987) was a Sweden, Swedish race walker who set 14 European and world records in various events. He was most successful over 10 km distance, winning Olympic gold medals in 1948 and 1952 and a European title in 1946. Mikaelsson competed domestically in running, skiing, orienteering, handball and football. His international race walking career began with a win at the 1937 English championship, but was then interrupted by World War II. References

Henry Laskau
Helmut ("Henry") Laskau (September 12, 1916 – May 7, 2000) has been called the greatest racewalker in U.S. track and field history. Born in Berlin, Germany Laskau was a top distance runner in his native Germany, before being forced to leave that country by the Nazis in 1938 due to his Jewish heritage. He moved to the United States and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, before resuming his competitive walking career in 1946.
