Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball is about the basketball teams of the Ateneo de Manila University. Current roster 5-on-5 basketball Rivals The Blue Eagles have had several rivalries throughout the years. Before the NCAA was founded and into the early years after its foundation (1924), Ateneo's fiercest basketball rivals were the UP Fighting Maroons (then known as the Maroon and Greens). Championships In men's basketball, the Ateneo Blue Eagles have won 26 titles as of 2022, 14 in the NCAA and 12 in the UAAP. Rich Alvarez
Richard Alvarez (born October 30, 1980) is a Japanese-born Filipino former professional basketball player and coach. He last played for the Kia Picanto of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He was the first overall pick of 2004 PBA Draft by the Shell Turbo Chargers. He is currently an assistant coach for the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters of the PBA. Early life and college career Alvarez grew up in Yokosuka, Japan where he first played for the Nile C. Kinnick High School Basketball Varsity Squad. Baby Dalupan
Virgilio "Baby" Adam Dalupan (October 19, 1923 – August 17, 2016) was a Filipino basketball coach and player. Dubbed "The Maestro", Dalupan was best known for his lengthy coaching tenure with the Crispa Redmanizers and garnered a career total of 52 basketball championships. During his 16-year Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) career (1975–1991), Dalupan won 15 PBA championships, the most by any PBA coach until February 26, 2014, when Tim Cone won his 16th PBA championship during the 2013–14 PBA Philippine Cup. Dalupan's record of 15 PBA titles went unmatched for 23 years (1990–2013) until Cone tied Dalupan's record on October 26, 2013, during the 2013 PBA Governors' Cup. Ricardo Cleofas
Ricardo "Joy" B. Cleofas (born February 9, 1951) is a Filipino retired basketball player. Cleofas played college ball for the Ateneo de Manila University under coach Nilo Verona. He led Ateneo to a runner-up finish in his first year together with Marte Samson. The Blue Eagles became NCAA champions in 1969 and among his teammates were Samson, Chito Afable, Jun Ross and Francis Arnaiz. After college, he played in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association for the YCO Painters. That same year, YCO garnered the National Seniors and Panamin tournament. Justin Chua
Justin Shaun Rodriguez Chua (born July 13, 1989) is a Filipino professional basketball player for the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He plays the center and power forward positions. He was the former star player of Chiang Kai Shek College during his high school days. He played for the Ateneo de Manila University before being selected tenth overall in the 2013 PBA draft by San Mig Super Coffee Mixers. Gec Chia
George Christian T. Chia (born August 19, 1979), better known as Gec Chia, is a Filipino people, Filipino business executive and former professional basketball player. Amateur career Chia initially wanted to play tennis, but due to the growing popularity of basketball in Zamboanga, he started to play for St. Joseph High School. He went on to represent Zamboanga in the Palarong Pambansa. Despite being a high-school standout, he was not recruited by any Metro Manila programs. Chia went on to major in computer science in Ateneo de Manila University, where he was an intramurals legend for the CERSA team in the intramurals. Jose Bernardo "Joy" Carpio (born May 7, 1958) is a retired Filipino professional basketball player who played in the Philippine Basketball Association. High School and College Career Carpio teamed up with Fritz Gaston, Steve Watson, future pro teammate Padim Israel and Chito Narvasa as a 6’4” center-forward for the Ateneo Blue Eagles from 1974 to 1977, winning back-to-back NCAA titles in 1975 and 1976. Ramon Paolo Vlajar Bugia (born January 19, 1981) is a Filipino former professional basketball player and executive who currently serves as the team manager for the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Norman Aaron Black (born December 3, 1996) is a Filipino-American professional basketball player for the Meralco Bolts of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
