In Greek mythology, Asteria (; Ancient Greek: Ἀστερία, "of the stars, starry one") was a name attributed to several distinct individuals. Individuals * Asteria, a minor goddess, daughter of Phoebe and Coeus. * Asteria or Astris, daughter of Helios and Clymene or Ceto, one of the Heliades. She married the river god Hydaspes (the modern Jhelum River) and became mother of Deriades, king in India. * Asteria, one of the Danaïdes, daughters of Danaus who, with one exception, murdered their husbands on their wedding nights. She was, briefly, the bride of Chaetus. * Asteria, one of the Alcyonides, daughters of the giant Alcyoneus. She was the sister of Alkippe, Anthe, Drimo, Pallene, Methone and Phthonia ( Phosthonia or Chthonia). Asteria (band)
Asteria is an American pop/rock band from Crown Point, Indiana. History Asteria formed in 2003 at Crown Point High School and began playing local shows, building a strong regional following. Their name was chosen by drummer Sam Henderson from a gardening book; it is an alteration of the word wisteria. After releasing their first album, 2004's ''Broken-Hearted Lullabies And Hope-Filled Dreams'', they played at the Indiana Region Rumble in 2004 and won a number of regional awards that year. Their second full-length ''A Lesson in Charades'' followed in May 2005, which soon after led to their signing to Carbon Copy Media, owned by J.T. ASTERIA (spacecraft)
ASTERIA (Arcsecond Space Telescope Enabling Research in Astrophysics) was a miniaturized space telescope technology demonstration and opportunistic science mission to conduct astrophysical measurements using a CubeSat. It was designed in collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. ASTERIA was the first JPL-built CubeSat to have been successfully operated in space. Originally envisioned as a project for training early career scientists and engineers, ASTERIA's technical goal was to achieve arcsecond-level line-of-sight pointing error and highly stable focal plane temperature control. These technologies are important for precision photometry, i.e., the measurement of stellar brightness over time. Asteria is a vocal ensemble founded in 2003 that specializes in historically-informed performances of medieval and Renaissance music, based on extensive research with original source material. It is based in Brooklyn, New York. The act consists of Sylvia Rhyne, soprano, and Eric Redlinger, tenor and lute player. Their repertoire is anchored in 15th century chanson, including noted composers such as Du Fay and Antoine Busnoys. Winners of the 2004 Unicorn Prize for best North American early music ensemble specializing in medieval and renaissance music, they have since toured extensively in Europe and the Americas. Asterias
''Asterias'' is a genus of the Asteriidae family of sea stars. It includes several of the best-known species of sea stars, including the (Atlantic) common starfish, ''Asterias rubens'', and the northern Pacific seastar, ''Asterias amurensis''. The genus contains a total of eight species in all. All species have five arms and are native to shallow oceanic areas (the littoral zone) of cold to temperate parts of the Holarctic. These starfish have planktonic larvae. ''Asterias amurensis'' is an invasive species in Australia and can in some years become a pest in the Japanese mariculture industry.
