Atomic Rooster
Atomic Rooster are a British rock band originally formed by members of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, organist Vincent Crane and drummer Carl Palmer. Throughout their history, keyboardist Vincent Crane was the only constant member and wrote the majority of their material. Their history is defined by two periods: the early-mid-1970s and the early 1980s. The band went through radical style changes, but they are best known for the hard, progressive rock sound of their hit singles, " Tomorrow Night" (UK No. 11) and "Devil's Answer" (UK No. 4), both in 1971. In 2016 Atomic Rooster reformed with permission from Crane's widow, with the new line-up featuring two members from the various 1970s incarnations of the band. Charisma Records
Charisma Records (also known as The Famous Charisma Label) was a British record label founded in 1969 by former journalist Tony Stratton-Smith. He had previously acted as manager for rock bands such as The Nice, the Bonzo Dog Band and Van der Graaf Generator. Gail Colson was label manager and joint managing director. The label's most successful acts were Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Julian Lennon, and Monty Python. The first release was an LP by Rare Bird, in (probably) November 1969, and this group gave Charisma its first hit single, Sympathy, in early 1970. (Sympathy was a reworking of Giazotto's 'reconstruction' of Albinoni's Adagio.) Nice 'n' Greasy
''Nice 'n' Greasy'' is the fifth studio album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. In the US, the record was issued on Elektra in a different sleeve (pictured) to most territories and retitled ''Atomic Rooster IV'', as their first album, ''Atomic Roooster'' (1970), failed to secure a US release. The US album also had a somewhat different track list to the UK version. The German release ''Nice & Greasy'' followed the US track listing, but with a phallic art sleeve. It was further reissued in Germany in 1977, this time in yet another new sleeve and retitled ''This is Atomic Rooster Vol. 2''. Home To Roost (album)
''Home to Roost'' is a compilation album by British rock band Atomic Rooster. It is made up of material from their first three studio albums. It has been issued on at least three separate occasions. The first time was in 1977, as a double LP on the Mooncrest label. In 1986 it was reissued with a new sleeve design on the Raw Power (Castle Communications) label. This time, the two LPs were accompanied by a 12 track CD release, which was Atomic Rooster's first in that format. Early CDs only had just over one hour's maximum playing time, causing 8 of the 20 tracks to be omitted, in order to facilitate a single disc. John Du Cann
John William Cann (2 June 1946 – 21 September 2011), later known by his stage name John Du Cann, was an English guitarist primarily known through his work in the 1970s band Atomic Rooster. Life and career His early bands included the Wiltshire-based The Sonics (not to be confused with the 1960s US band of the same name) and London-based The Attack, which released "Hi Ho Silver Lining" a few days prior to Jeff Beck. He went on to lead a psychedelic, progressive, hard rock band called Andromeda, before being asked to join Atomic Rooster, when bass player and vocalist Nick Graham left the band. Cann overdubbed guitar parts and replaced Graham's vocals on three tracks of their 1970 self-titled debut album, and a second pressing featuring the overdubbed tracks was soon issued, though without crediting him on the sleeve. Vincent Rodney Cheesman (21 May 194314 February 1989), known professionally as Vincent Crane, was an English keyboardist, best known as the organist for the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Atomic Rooster. Crane co-wrote "Fire", the 1968 hit single by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Biography Born Vincent Rodney Cheesman in Reading, Berkshire, he taught himself boogie woogie piano as a teenager before attending Trinity College of Music between 1961 and 1964. Influenced by Graham Bond, he took up Hammond organ. In late 1966 he formed the Vincent Crane Combo, which comprised bass player Binky McKenzie, sax player John Claydon and drummer Gordon Hadler. In 1967 he teamed up with Arthur Brown in the Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Their debut album, ''The Crazy World of Arthur Brown'' (1968) contained the song "Fire", co-written by Crane and a chart-topping hit single in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, with Crane's organ and brass arrangement to the fore.
