Association For Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs
The Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) is one of two police unions for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) officers, the other being the Los Angeles Sheriff's Professional Association (LASPA). ALADS represented 8,200 deputies and district attorney investigators in 2006. History ALADS was founded in February 1970 by 10 deputies. In 1976, ALADS was certified to represent Bargaining Unit 0611, composed of sworn officers of Los Angeles County. In 1999, a splinter union, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Professional Association (LASPA), was formed, due to disagreements with ALADS over providing greater public transparency of ALADS documents, including financial statements, employee and attorney contracts, and expense records. The Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) is the police union representing Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers up to the rank of lieutenant. LAPPL has a membership of 9,900 sworn officers. The LAPPL serves to protect the interests of LAPD officers through lobbying, legislative and legal advocacy, political action and education. Alejandro Villanueva is an American law enforcement officer who served as the 33rd sheriff of Los Angeles County, California. He defeated incumbent sheriff Jim McDonnell in the 2018 L.A. County Sheriff's race, making him the first to unseat an incumbent in over 100 years. Before becoming Sheriff, he was a lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Jim McDonnell (sheriff)
James McDonnell is the former sheriff of Los Angeles County. McDonnell was elected as L.A. County's 32nd sheriff on November 4, 2014, defeating former Undersheriff Paul Tanaka (who is now in federal prison). He replaced interim sheriff John Scott on December 1, 2014. Scott replaced former sheriff Lee Baca (who is also in federal prison). George Gascón
George Gascón (born March 12, 1954) is an American attorney and former police officer who is the district attorney of Los Angeles County. A member of the Democratic Party and a former Republican, Gascón served as the district attorney of San Francisco from 2011 to 2019. Prior to his work as a prosecutor, he was an assistant chief of police for the LAPD, and Chief of Police in Mesa, Arizona and San Francisco. Gascón was born in Havana, Cuba.
