Ashley Madison Data Breach
In July 2015, a group calling itself "The Impact Team" stole the user data of Ashley Madison, a commercial website billed as enabling extramarital affairs. The group copied personal information about the site's user base and threatened to release users' names and personally identifying information if Ashley Madison would not immediately shut down. On 18 and 20 August, the group leaked more than 60 gigabytes of company data, including user details. Because of the site's policy of not deleting users' personal information – including real names, home addresses, search history and credit card transaction records – many users feared being publicly shamed. Ashley Madison, or The Ashley Madison Agency, is a Canadian online dating service and social networking service marketed to people who are married or in relationships. The site has been widely condemned for being a "business built on the back of broken hearts", and is also believed to lie about the size of its userbase by "creating fake accounts, or not stopping others from creating fake accounts". It was founded in 2002 by Darren J. Morgenstern, with the slogan "Life is short. Have an affair". The name comes from two popular female names in North America, " Ashley" and "Madison". Outing
Outing is the act of disclosing an LGBT person's sexual orientation or gender identity without that person's consent. It is often done for political reasons, either to instrumentalize homophobia in order to discredit political opponents or to combat homophobia and heterosexism by revealing that a prominent or respected individual is homosexual. Examples of outing in history include the Krupp affair, Eulenburg affair, and Röhm scandal. The ethics of outing are highly contested as it can often have a negative effect on the target's personal life or career. 2014 Celebrity Photo Hack
On August 31, 2014, a collection of nearly five hundred private pictures of various celebrities, mostly women, with many Imagery of nude celebrities, containing nudity, were posted on the imageboard 4chan, and quickly disseminated by other users on websites and social networks such as Imgur and Reddit. The leak has been popularly dubbed The Fappening and also Celebgate. The images were initially believed to have been obtained via a breach of Apple Inc., Apple's Cloud computing, cloud services suite iCloud, or a security issue in the iCloud Application programming interface, API which allowed them to make unlimited attempts at guessing victims' passwords.
