Ashaiman (Ghana Parliament Constituency)
Ashaiman is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The Ashaiman constituency is located in the Tema Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Tema Municipal District
Tema Metropolitan District is one of the twenty-nine districts in Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Originally created as a municipal district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until two parts of the district were later split off to create Adenta Municipal District (from the northwest part) and Ashaiman Municipal District (from the north central part) respectively on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part was elevated to metropolitan district assembly status on that same year to become Tema Metropolitan District. However on 28 June 2012, the eastern part of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District (which was later elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Kpone-Katamanso Municipal District on 15 March 2018); thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. 2004 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2004. Democratic Freedom Party
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) was a political party in Ghana. It was formed in 2006 and eventually merged with the National Democratic Congress in 2011. It came in fourth place in the Ghanaian general election of 2008 with 0.33% of the total vote. Formation The formation of the Democratic Freedom Party was announced in February, 2006 by Dr. Obed Asamoah, former chairman of the National Democratic Congress, as a viable third party alternative to the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party. This follows a split between a Rawlings faction and an Asamoah faction within the NDC. Convention People's Party
The Convention People's Party (CPP) is a Socialism, socialist political party in Ghana based on the ideas of the first President of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah. The CPP was formed in June 1949 after Nkrumah broke away from the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). Nkrumah was the then appointed Secretaty General of the UGCC when he was arrested by the leader of the UGCC and imprisoned for an alleged thought, plans and power against Kwame Nkrumah's leadership. Kwame Nkrumah then formed the Convention People's Party with support of some UGCC members and had a purpose for self governance. The People's National Convention is a political party in Ghana. After constitutional rule was restored back in Ghana in 1992 the party was formed by former President Hilla Limann based on ideals from the People's National Party (Ghana) which he led in the 1979 elections and won. 2008 Ghanaian Parliamentary Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2008. Since no candidate received more than 50% of the votes, a run-off election was held on 28 December 2008 between the two candidates who received the most votes, Nana Akufo-Addo of the governing New Patriotic Party and John Atta Mills of the opposition National Democratic Congress. Alfred Kwame Agbesi
Alfred Kwame Agbesi (born 20 February 1955) is a lawyer and politician in Ghana. He belongs to the National Democratic Congress. He was the former Member of Parliament for Ashaiman (Ghana parliament constituency) and a former Deputy majority leader of Parliament of Ghana under John Dramani Mahama administration. Early life and education Alfred Kwame Agbesi was born on 20 February 1955. He was hails from Agave-Afedume in the Volta Region of Ghana. He was educated in Ghana. He holds Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana, Legon in 1979 and BL (GSL) 1981. Greater Accra Region
The Greater Accra Region has the smallest area of Ghana's 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of 3,245 square kilometres. This is 1.4 per cent of the total land area of Ghana.
